It’s almost that time again folks: Compulsory Love Day is next Thursday, so it’s time to stock up on the champagne, chocolates, and condoms. That is, if you have a partner. If not, tradition dictates you sit at home alone, preferably in a battered bathrobe, and eat a quart of ice cream out of the container. If you’re feeling somewhere in the middle of the champagne/battered bathrobe spectrum, here are some ideas to keep you and your beloved occupied for the next week and change.

Are you young? Do you like art? How about things that are free? Well, the Young Friends of the Philadelphia Art Museum have invited us to invite you to a gallery reception they're hosting at the Ashley Gallery (718 North 3rd Street) on Thursday the 18th at 5:30 p.m. The Young Friends bill themselves as "a dynamic group of young professionals who support a number of Museum initiatives," and who participate in and arrange a variety of art-related events.

Project H.O.M.E., an organization dedicated to ending Philadelphia's cycle of poverty and homelessness, will be holding their inaugural Young Friends Event tonight in Great Hall at the University of the Arts from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Last week Mayor John Street announced a ten year, $10 million plan to eradicate homelessness in the City of Brotherly Love. The $10 million for the project is already accounted for, having been earmarked from city, state and federal funds. There's a plan, devised by city officials meeting with homeless advocates and other experts.
