Philadelphia Phillies GM Ruben Amaro recently announced that reliever Chan Ho Park most likely will not be a part of the hometown team's plans next year. To many people, this news was probably met with a shrug. Me? I'm in the mood to confess. more ›

Mayors Nutter and Bloomberg are using the World Series (have we mentioned the Phillies are playing the Yankees?) as an opportunity to draw attention to community service. Unlike a cheesecake/cheesesteak bet, this friendly wager will have the losing mayor (whom we can only assume will be Bloomberg) visiting the winning mayor's city to work on a mural on a children's recreational center. Phillyist looks forward to Mayor Bloomberg's visit after the series. more ›

We were happy to hear from @vboykis in the comments of yesterday's inaugural Twiitterist post. But we know that there are a lot more of you out there with your own Twitter account. more ›

The Daily News reports that Chase Utley has apologized for dropping an F-bomb at last night's All-Star Home Run Derby. The obscenity was caught by the ESPN microphone Utley was wearing as he took the field, an apparent response to the cacophony of boos that met the second baseman when he was introduced. more ›

Many, many moons ago, this Phillyist spent her college years carousing through the mean streets of Pittsburgh. As anyone knows, a good carousing needs a soundtrack, and in Pittsburgh, the soundtrack was invariably the music of The Clarks. more ›

Gothamist learned about the craziest urban nightmare come true: A huge python found in the bathroom pipes. It was also a nightmare for some Yankees fans, as manger Joe Torre declined to come back and manage the Bronx Bombers. At least the city's attempt to give some direction to subway riders was interesting, pranksters went shirtless at the Fifth Avenue Abercrombie & Fitch and the I Heart Brooklyn Girls calendars came out. And just in time for Halloween, the Chocolate Jesus is back. more ›

This week, Phillyist saw the waters of a landmark fountain run red for a Showtime marketing stunt, the Phils pull ahead, and some serious nostalgia. They also got a chance to review an awesome tribute album, reminded folks to see the King, and appreciated their beautiful skyline. more ›

LAist was comped front row seats by the Dodgers due to Malingering being struck by a foul ball last week, and she came back with some great photos, and earlier made fun of 4th of July on Venice Beach. But the biggest stories of the week was that the Mayor's Hot Tamale was revealed, and that a Kwik-E-Mart was erected in Burbank. more ›

So the dust has settled. The two biggest moves made by yesterday’s trade deadline were the Phillies sending Bobby Abreu and Cory Lidle to the Yankees, and the Cubs trading out Cy Young Winner Greg Maddux to the Dodgers. more ›

So the Phillies made two trades. Whoopee. Did they get who they wanted for two first class major leaguers? No. Not by far. more ›

It's gorgeous outside, but we're too busy to enjoy it much. We're just glad that we don't have a car, so we have to walk between all of our errands. We're also glad for all of our other sister -ists -- they provide a nice distraction when we're not feeling much like work! more ›

Alright, boys. We love you. We really do, but you’re killing us. You’re 1-6, and while Bobby Abreu’s walk-off home run on Sunday was a nice, sunny spot on the new season, we forget good things fast when you suck it up the first week of the season. more ›

Whether it's true or not, Phillyist has named today an official slow news day. Many of our -ist brethren seem to agree. more ›

This week’s quote comes from the musical . The players on a baseball team are singing that they aren’t the greatest players, but at least they play with heart. Unfortunately, we can relate. Now, on with the listings! more ›
