  • Authorities yesterday released an enhanced video that may show the man who robbed and shot aspiring teacher and Starbucks employee Beau Zabel. Click through to view the video, and certainly contact police if you think you can identify the suspect.
  • Is Michael ignoring the social problems posed by the digital divide by declining to use city funds to save Philly WiFi?

As you may or may not have heard by now, there's going to be a huge gathering of the minds right here in Philadelphia next week. "What minds?" you might ask. Well, minds just like yours, which is to say: blogger minds.

Spring appears to have, er, sprung, at least temporarily, in most of the Ist-A-Verse, so naturally, we're all feeling pretty good. (Yes, we know that spring doesn't start till later this month. Just let us enjoy our weather!) And that makes us that much more eager to share all of the nifty things we're up to...

Last Friday, January 5, the GPTMC held a joint press conference with Mayor Street at F.U.E.L. Collection (the former Real World House) in Old City. During the conference, the Mayor reaffirmed the goal that the city of Philadelphia would be wireless by 2007—something that may have been cast slightly into doubt by the fact that the GPTMC was handing out Wi-Fi detectors to members of the press. First we heard that students from West Philadelphia High School had built a fast, fuel-efficient car that runs on soybean bio-diesel fuel (0-60 in 4 seconds, and 50 mpg, thank you very much) and got to show it off at the Philadelphia Auto Show. (Via) Now we've heard that teams from Norristown High School and Gwynedd-Mercy Academy tied in a competition to create anti-smoking commercials for MTV, and now both of their commercials will be shown on the network later this year. Awesome.
