I am not a big person. As such, I can't usually eat a full restaurant-sized portion, and nearly every meal that I eat out will actually end up as two. That's why the Unemployment Diet worked so well for me. I just made a conscious decision not to force myself to finish my meals out, and voila! My food budget was cut in half, and all I had to do was be willing to take home a doggie bag and eat the leftovers later.

When Phillyist went on the Unemployment Diet, we lost fifteen pounds. While it probably wasn't a terribly healthy way to lose weight, we were a lot closer to our target weight than we had been in the months prior, and we looked and felt better than we had in some time.
As I write this, I've just returned from dinner with friends at Bistro Romano. I almost didn't go, because the restaurant's menu on MenuPages indicated that its prices didn't mesh so well with the Unemployment Diet, which I am still on. (I've lost twelve pounds, though!) Fortunately, my buddy Tom, who chose the restaurant, told me about Bistro Romano's Pasta Night on Mondays: a salad and any pasta dish off the menu for less than the cost of one of the pasta dishes alone. I ordered the lobster ravioli, because it's something I love and don't get to eat too often.
getting was from my endless supply of dairy products: mostly Wawa milk and string cheese from Trader Joe's. But my body needed real, hearty protein. And iron. (I've been dragging and figured that not having enough iron could be a contributing factor. Never mind that I've been averaging four and a half hours of sleep per night, because that's clearly not the problem, right?) I needed red meat, and soon.
