What's new and/or interesting in Philly theaters this weekend

The last time we saw The National was on their gigantic tour with Arcade Fire. In the midst of The National’s set at The Tower Theater, this Phillyist was overtaken. “This is the best band ever,” we thought. Well, we were thinking that until Arcade Fire came on and blew our ears off…but we knew the band was going to be something worth loving. And shortly thereafter, Internet critics began to think along the same...

Fans of straight-ahead, no-nonsense rock 'n roll from bands with talent to burn have had a rough go of it lately. Enter the Kings of Leon, who will bring their unique blend of indie and blues to the Electric Factory tonight. The show is way sold out, but you’re gonna wanna worm your way in, by hook or by crookaigslist.

As far as I'm concerned, The Honorary Title should be headlining their own tour, but Friday night at the Theatre of Living Arts they fronted Butch Walker. Obviously most of the audience was there to see Butch Walker. This simple fact had a huge impact on The Honorary Title's performance and attitude. There were several issues with the concert, but most of them were due to circumstance, and weren't the band's fault. They played...

Tonight, Theatre of the Living Arts presents Butch Walker and the Let's Go Out Tonites with The Honorary Title and Rocket starting at 9PM. We're very excited for The Honorary Title's performance because they're debuting some new tracks off of their upcoming CD, Scream and Light up the Sky, which is due out in June. You can see the entire list here, and make sure to check out this awesome entry on XPN's blog, which is packed with YouTube videos featuring vintage concert footage of the artists who made the top ten. Speaking of the top ten, here they are:

Well, first of all, for those of you too lazy to click a link, here is that top ten, reproduced for your pleasure (and/or displeasure):

News of U2 coming to the campaign aid of PA junior senator Rick Santorum came from a questionable source yesterday. We scratched our heads and tried to imagine a U2 fundraising concert solely for Republicans who support Rick Santorum. We dreamt of Bono dragging Rick Santorum up onto the stage on Sunday, October 16 at the Wachovia Center and congratulating Santorum on his compassionate conservative agenda. Visions of hip Republicans with lighters screaming "Freeeebird!" danced in our heads.
