Warning: This whole review is basically a spoiler. Despite its infamy, there are apparently people out there who are still surprised by the "twist" at the end of M. Butterfly, currently being produced by the Philadelphia Theatre Company. These are the same people who are confused by Ru Paul. Please proceed with caution.
Wherever you stand on the “Putting Christ Back in Christmas” issue, the simple fact of the matter is that I’m a Jew who loves Christmas. I can easily chalk that up to the fact that I’ve got a [lapsed] Catholic father, but in truth, my mom probably loves Christmas more than my father does. She’s the one who taught me all the Christmas carols.

This Phillyist arrived at the third and final DanceBOOM week in an inexplicably giggly mood. Fortunately, my mood wasn't entirely inappropriate for the evening's line-up. I walked into the lobby at the Wilma with plenty of time to catch Mixed Pickles Vintage Dance Co. dancing their hearts out to "The Teddy Bear Picnic," performing various animal-inspired parlor dances of the early Twentieth Century. The group researches each dance they learn, and while their pre-dance explanations of this research could get a little tedious, it was at least interesting to find out how Philadelphians reacted to the tango. As a former ballroom dancer, I was entertained, and as a former costume designer, I was impressed by the Pickles' turn-of-the-century garb.
