If you haven’t heard already, Phillies shortstop Jimmy Rollins is the MVP of the National League. And there is absolutely no one that’s more deserving of the award, except for Rockies left fielder Matt Holliday. You can argue for any player winning the award. Rollins gained 16 first place votes, finishing with 353 points, edging out Holliday’s 11 first place votes and 336 points. This year’s MVP voting was precarious in that J-Roll wasn’t......

I haven't studied a lot of Brecht. But from what I have studied, I feel very safe in making the assertion that Brecht is either someone that people either adore and worship and elevate, or he's someone whose work people really can't stand. I lean heavily toward the former, which is why I was so excited to see The Wilma Theater's production of The Life of Galileo. Fortunately for fans of Brecht, this production......

Films: The Cats of Mirikitani, Cigarettes and Whiskey and Wild Wild Women, Sweet Mud Future Screenings: No future screenings of any of the above films scheduled Once again, I took advantage of the night and sat through a wide range of movies. I didn’t feel that the short film collection Cigarettes and Whiskey and Wild Wild Women could be given just one rating. I would have preferred to have rated them individually; however, this was......

What's new and/or interesting on TV this week. BCS Championship Game: Florida vs. Ohio State (Mon; 8:15PM-12AM; Fox) - Finally, the ultimate college football bowl game is here! The underdog Gators fought through a brutal schedule to win the SEC title, and now face-off against the Buckeyes (including Heisman Trophy-winning Troy Smith) for the first time in the big one. (Link) I Love New York (Mon; 9PM-10:30PM; VH1) - One of the most obnoxious characters......

Bad productions of La Bohème, the second most-performed opera worldwide, are virtually non-existent due to the beauty of Puccini’s music and the timelessness of the plot. The Opera Company of Philadelphia’s production is no exception. It's comically staged and well-sung, and audiences will leave the theater humming Puccini’s gorgeous tunes. Rodolfo, a poet, and Marcello, a painter, live together in the Latin Quarter of Paris during the turn of the century. They are destitute and......

Ah, our Philly heart swells with pride: a local Fishtown dog is in competition for the World's Ugliest Dog! His name is Pee Wee Martini (AKA "Mr. Peepers," AKA "Son of Sam") and he's a hairless, crooked-nosed Chinese-crested, Japanese Chin mix with no teeth on one side of his mouth (see picture, right). One man's reaction upon seeing Pee Wee for the first time: "I was confused. I thought I just witnessed a horrible accident."......

Just as fans were coming to terms with the Phils missing the playoffs, they switched to Fox and saw that their next big hope, the Philadelphia Eagles, were quickly on their way to a mediocre 2 - 2 start to their season. The Eagles, who followed up a tough opening night loss to Atlanta with two wins over the San Francisco 49ers and Oakland Raiders, went down quickly to the Kansas City Chiefs, who pounced......
