Oprah’s said it. The helpful Victoria Secret clerks say it. Our great-aunt Holly used to say it all the time: a well-fitting bra makes the woman. Today you can acquire said well-fitting brassiere and help raise money for breast cancer research at the same time at Fit for the Cure. Wacoal certified fitters will be on hand in the lingerie department at Macy’s Center City today from 11AM-5PM; for every woman who participates in a fitting of a Wacoal or DKNY bra, they will donate $2 to Susan G. Komen for the Cure. For every Wacoal or DKNY bra purchased, they will donate an additional $2. Unfortunately it does specify “every woman;” we were kind of hoping to head over with some guys and guilt them into trying something on “for the cause.” Oh, well, have to save that for a Saturday night at home…

Without question there are things in because it may confront them with issues and ideas that are completely foreign to their own, and others because the taboos it toys with might be guiltily familiar; and still others because there are things in life having to do with bodily fluids that are just plain gross, no matter who and how you love.

Last night Phillyist attended the first of the three Evenings with the Curators of the 15th Philadelphia Film Festival that we told you about here, and we have to say, it was pretty exciting. Some of the stuff we learned: the festival is running from March 30th through April 11th, which is shorter and earlier than it's been in the past; this is in order to avoid all the religious holidays, and that most non-religious of non-holidays, tax day. The theaters involved will be a lot of the usual suspects (Ritz East, Ritz 5, the Prince Music Theater, the Bridge, the International House), plus one new surprise guest: the Cinema at Penn. What's the Cinema at Penn, you ask? You may remember it as the busted up, broken down, crappy old Cinemagic 3 theater, caddy corner from the Bridge at 40th and Walnut. The film festival folks are going to tear it up inside and rebuild it, leaving us with a beautiful new refurbished theater. Hooray!

Are you as excited about the upcoming 15th Philadelphia Film Festival as Phillyist is?! We don't really see how you could be, but okay. Anyway, if you just can't wait to know this year's line-up (we mean besides the Danger After Dark program; you already know that, thanks to us), and/or you're desperate to know more about how the films were selected and which of them are going to be really good, you should show up at one of the three Evening with the Curators events this month, where the festival programmers will be talking about all that and more! Attending will be Associate Program Director and Danger After Dark Curator Travis Crawford (pictured), as well as Documentaries head honcho Jennifer Steinberg, Scott Johnston from the Citypaper Festival of Independents, and Festival Media Director Andrew Preis. There'll even be a question and answer portion, so if you've ever wondered anything about the festival or about this year's films, now's your chance! Personally, Phillyist plans on bugging Travis big time by asking him why the hell there's no Takashi Miike film in Danger After Dark this year.

On July 26, 2000, Phillies pitcher Curt Schilling (now the most-expensive set-up man around while he rehabs his ankle injury) was traded to the fesity Arizona Diamondbacks after winning 102 games in a Phillies uniform, including one in the 1993 World Series. Schilling was upset in Philly, he wanted out and the rest is history. The Phillies may not see a pitcher that good for 25 years. He’s up there with Steve Carlton and Robin Roberts as the best to ever pitch in Philly. The Phillies received what at the time seemed like a steal. They got pitching prospect Nelson Figueroa, solid veteran Omar Daal, power-hitting first round draft pick Travis Lee, and another prospect, hard-throwing 22 year old Vicente Padilla, who was striking out a batter an inning with the D-Backs. He was praised for his competitiveness by manager Buck Showalter, who did not want to part with him. The only thing the Phillies have to show from that trade five years later, aside from the everlasting hysteria from “The Bowa Years,” is Vicente Padilla. Although he represented Philadelphia in the 2002 All-Star Game, he was fighting to stay in the big leagues as he pitched against the Pirates in Pittsburgh last night. While Schilling has won 2 World Series, the Phillies have lost with, as Chris Mustazza affectionately calls him, “Sure-to-lose” Padilla. We all love Vicente, though; we do want him to do well. We know he’s the same pitcher Showalter praised, taking losses out on himself. It has taken a great toll on his confidence to pitch as bad as he has been pitching. But Padilla helped the Phils last night to come within four and a half games of the NL wild card leading Atlanta Braves.
