I Have A Baby and Ten Dollars... Now What?

Studio 34, home of a recently featured Mom and Baby yoga mention, is starting a fantastic new class for kids (ages 18 months to 4 years) and they want you to try it out for free. Today, October 15th, check out the kids' ZoomDance series at 10:30 a.m. What is ZoomDance? I didn't know, either, but Studio 34 was kind enough to explain it to me. A high-energy class of dance, music, story-telling, and imagination which promotes literacy and creative expression. In other words, it's kinda a perfect class. Each week the group will read a different book and then act it out, inventing characters, exploring the space, and showing off—everything kids love to do. A seven week course, the whole session will run you $70, however if you sign up before the 15th, they'll knock off ten. Pre-register and get all your questions answered here or, feel free to give Studio 34 a call at 610-937-2032.

Choo, Choo, Chooooose Trains!

One hundred forty years ago, the founder of Stanford University drove a Golden Spike into the ground in Utah, connecting the Central Pacific and Union Pacific railways, connecting the nation through rail and forever changing travel as the world knew it.

One of our favorite Philly holiday traditions is the Reading Terminal Holiday Railroad. You can tell we like it because we've taken pictures of it and posted about it every year for the past three years. It's our own little tradition, and we're keeping up with it this year. Enjoy the photos, then go check out the display in person when you can. It's bound to brighten your day.

  • "Service on SEPTA's R6 commuter rail line has been suspended in both directions after a person crossing the tracks this morning was struck by a train."
  • (Because we were.) DigPhilly let us know today that SEPTA will be offering free rides on any train leaving from or arriving in Center City after 6:30PM tonight and tomorrow night. This is to celebrate SEPTA's new extended hours (until 2:47AM!) on the R5 Paoli-Thorndale, R6 Norristown, and R7 Trenton lines. That means no rushing back fron New York to make your connection in Trenton and no leaving Manayunk before your favorite band takes the stage. It also means that your boring friends on the Main Line who always leave the party early can hang out with you until last call, no excuses. Why shouldn't we be celebrating along with SEPTA?

  • Apparently one of the key witnesses against Vincent Fumo in his corruption trial will be his own son-in-law. In the hopes of keeping the trial from running overlong, the judge in the case has ordered prosecutors and defense attorneys to pare down their witness lists.
  • Disturbing news on the commuting front: a man jumped in front of a PATCO train this morning at the Broadway station in an apparent suicide attempt. The man did survive, although DRPA officials confirmed that he had to have one leg partially amputated to get him out from under the train. He’s at Cooper, but his condition is not listed.

A friend of mine had a rather interesting encounter on a train last week.
