Let's get all the holiday news out of the way first: the Inquirer has coverage of the 88th annual Philadelphia Thanksgiving Day Parade, which mainly focuses on the great weather. They greet Black Friday by reminding us of the many toy recalls, and by pointing out that there could be lots of great deals to be had out there due to a yearlong sales slump and tons of extra inventory. Now that the Mayoral...
Mayor Street was out in force today on the streets of Philadelphia... at least the one in front of the AT&T store. Seems the iPhone is the great equalizer, sending our mayor out to wait shivering in the drizzle (he's number 3 in line, so no need to feel too bad for him - or rather for the male aide who is currently standing in his stead). We wonder who he'll call first. "Hey Nutter, I got your budget right here!" Or maybe he'll try a knock-knock joke on Tom Knox... or let Lynn Abrams know what to do if her refrigerator is running...
Tom Knox is the frontrunner in the 2007 Democratic primary and, according to the most recent Keystone poll, the one with the momentum behind him. But like so many other things about him, Knox’s accomplishment is less impressive than it first appears. Relying on nothing more than a wealth of contacts in city and state government, a nationally known campaign team (his media guru was profiled in The New Republic, under the headline “Joe Trippi Reinvents Campaigning”), and more money than God and his opponents put together, his campaign managed to overcome a name recognition deficit by flooding the local airwaves with ads. No doubt this was a risky strategy—how could they be sure that Philadelphians would spend time watching television?
Weekend's here, so most bloggers will be taking it light for the next two days. That's because most people blog from work while they're supposed to be getting things done. Yeah you. You know you do it too.
We're sad to report that Milton Street is no longer running for mayor, but happy to report that he is running for City Council-at-large—against his own nephew! Which means a lot of relatives of mayors and former mayors will be on the May 15 ballot (May 15 being, as the Daily News helpfully points out, the day after Milton is scheduled to stand trial on federal corruption charges). Besides Milton and his nephew Sharif, there'll be W. Wilson Goode, the son of former Mayor Wilson Goode, and Bill Green, the son of former Mayor William Green.

- It probably goes without saying by now - but if you're planning to fly out of Philadelphia International Airport, you're going to want to get there very early and watch what you pack in your carry on luggage.
