After losing to the Pacers Monday (110-103), and the Pistons Wednesday (86-78), the Sixers are hoping to beat the Knicks tonight. They’re hoping that snaps them out of the losing funk they’ve been in, which has seen them lose 10 of their last 12 games.

Fun around town, for $10 or less:

The Phillies have signed free-agent Brett Favre…er, 33-year-old outfielder Geoff Jenkins (see the resemblance?) and 30-year-old starter/reliever Chad Durbin, continuing a rather dulling off-season for the Fightins.

June 17 -The Phillies lost the last game of their series with the Detroit Tigers, 7-4. Not only did the Phillies lose the series, but gave away yet another game that they should have won. Phillies pitcher Adam Eaton continued his string of quality starts, and pitched and hit well enough to win, leaving the game with a 3-1 lead, and coming up with two hits on the day. Yet, it’s the same story on a different day with different relievers. Geoff Geary was unable to retire any of the batters he had faced, and Yoel Hernandez gave up 3 more runs, adding up to a five-run inning for the Tigers.

Ah, Valentine's Day: refuge of the uninspired lover and bane of the singleton's year. Fear not! We present our annual offbeat V-day guide, guaranteed to add some flair to the red-heart holiday (whose idea was it to put a celebration of love and relationships smack in the middle of the great gray beast February anyway, we ask you?).

We're back, people, with your regular steaming hot pile of all our favorite things from around the internets.

Phillyist has been suffering through an extreme bout of insomnia lately, which we mentioned to you last week. That, combined with our currently heavy workload, makes us lament the mere two days we get every weekend and kind of think about moving to France and joining up with our Parisian sister site. If only we spoke the language...

Chris and Phil return this week in the wake of a terrible sweep at the hands of the Wild Card leading Houston Astros. Today, Mustazza and Sandick tackle Billy Wagner's recent troubles, what the Phils' bullpen should look like next season, and how the Phillies have to play over these last 22 games in order to win the Wild Card.

You know the deal: you want an iPod, but you only have $12 in your wallet. It's a tough situation. And I'm not going to lie to you: there's really no way to get an iPod for $12, unless that iPod is (a) dead, (b) broken, or (c) not actually an iPod. But if you want to watch the band that made the song that, in a way, made you want the iPod, well, you can see them. And only for $12 bucks. How's that for a lede? The Caesars, whose "Jerk It Out" is featured on those funky, roller-skating iPod Shuffle ads, are coming to the North Star Bar with openers The Sights and Golden Republic. The Caesars have been milking the iPod cow by releasing "Jerk It Out" on both of their albums (2003's 39 Minutes of Bliss and this year's Paper Tigers), but they have a bit more to offer than mallable jingles. They're not the indie rock saviors that they may want to be, but they do offer some strong power pop along the lines of Phantom Planet. So if that's your bag, you may want to give up the $12 iPod dream and check out the Caesars. Golden Republic, the opening duo whose self-titled debut was released this year, will have you dancing around if you get there early enough to see them. We love our bass here at Phillyist. Meanwhile, The Sights aim to offer maybe the strongest show of them all. They offer power pop through garage rock, a rich sound produced by a minimal band. Their self-titled third album was released this year, and it's good. It's unfortunate that you only have $12 in your pocket. The Caesars with The Sights and Golden Republic

Once again, the city of Philadelphia has let me down. For yet another time, my hopes were raised, only to be shattered. This time it wasn’t the Phillies or Eagles. It wasn’t even a sports team. No, this time I’m let down by Live 8. The riots that would occur with 1 million people just never panned out. The excess port-a-potty sewage flooding the street? Not so much. I was looking forward to a good old fashioned mob scene this weekend, and what did I get? Woodstock 2005. All peace, love and harmony. No large scale arrests? This comes from a city that had to install a court in Veterans Stadium. I thought for sure we were really going to step up this time, finally make some news for ourselves. I thought maybe the Philadelphia police might gather people up in nets like the NYPD did at last years' Republican National Convention. But no! They acted responsibly. And how about overturning some cars, like Detroit did after the Tigers won the World Series in the 80’s? Not a one. The best we get is a bunch of trash on the Parkway. So once again Philadelphia gets no national recognition. Is there a draft pick somewhere we can boo?
