We'd like to start this post off with something we just read in a press release:

You know those songs that take over your headphones for weeks at a time? Well, the youngest alternative-rocker on the Phillyist staff decided to put all those infectious tunes into a list of 10 - and then 10 more, just because. And for your listening pleasure, yours truly linked to the album versions of those songs (thanks YouTube, for your comprehensiveness) - just click on the song names! I think you'll enjoy this medley of happy, somber, honest, and beautiful songs. And if you don't find three songs that you like, well, you can tell me that I don't know anything about music.

I'm a music guy. I listen to a ton of music, and because of Phillyist, I've been able to hear a lot of great stuff I never would have heard otherwise. But, no matter how much of a music fan you are, there are always some great albums that slip through the cracks and you don't manage to hear, even though you really should. So here are ten albums from 2007 I really should have heard by now, but for some reason haven't. Some are on this list because of critical buzz, while others are based on my own thoughts about the artists. And I pose the question to you, dear readers: Which two or three of these albums should I use my lovely Amazon gift card to buy?

Keep in mind that despite the "top ten" designation, these are in no particular order. Also, most of these bands have been around for a few years, but I only discovered them this year. And just a quick warning: I use some NSFW language in this post. So sue me.

Radiohead, as everyone knows, is The Best Band in the World. But once, long ago, in the far off '90s, they just played really, really good pop music. Then came their career-changing album OK Computer. With this album, they created their own new genre - a heady, intellectual, electronica/indie pop that blew everyone's minds. It wasn't only a success and a huge turning point for Radiohead, it's a true masterpiece, and a watershed release in the history of music. So we think it's pretty cool that Philadelphia-based Radiohead tribute band Meeting in the Aisle is celebrating the album's tebth anniversary by playing the entire thing from beginning to end tonight at Grape Street.

Sorry, folks. No diary today. Simply put, now is not the time for witty jokes and non sequiturs about my English Bulldog or P.J. Harvey’s latest work. I am not even going to ramble on about how brilliant Radiohead’s latest album is, and how they make overrated, whiny droners like The National look like rank amateurs. Sometimes one must discard structure, and get their rant on…and this is one of those times.

The last time we saw The National was on their gigantic tour with Arcade Fire. In the midst of The National’s set at The Tower Theater, this Phillyist was overtaken. “This is the best band ever,” we thought. Well, we were thinking that until Arcade Fire came on and blew our ears off…but we knew the band was going to be something worth loving. We are dumbfounded as to why the New York Post’s Page Six gossip column has been following the saga of the love life of KYW’s Alycia Lane, but it has provided some odd entertainment since the spring. In case you don’t know, the tabloid broke the story of Lane sending e-mails containing bikini photos of herself to NFL Network anchor Rich Eisen which were intercepted by his wife, ABC Sports reporter Suzy Shuster.

Londonist are starting to think their city is getting just a little bit too expensive, when even Christian Slater can't afford to go out there. And there's no escaping, as local singer Lily Allen discovered when she was barred entry to the US. The British mapping agency caused further bad karma, by blocking a 3-D representation of London in Google Earth. But the smiles returned to Londonist's faces as they interviewed Baroness von Reichardt, who has completely covered her house in mosaic tiles.
