I Have a Baby and Ten Dollars...Now What?

With weekends getting rainy and cold and just...horrible, the good city of Philadelphia has given anyone with children dozens of good reason to stay inside.

I Have a Haunted Baby and Ten Spooky Dollars... Now What?

There is too much going on this weekend and it refused to be contained in one article. This week Phillyist is giving you twice the excitement with a double vision version of I Have A Baby And Ten Dollars.... While this article deals with events, concerts, plays, and such, take a look at this strictly trick-or-treating list we posted earlier today to ensure you get the biggest candy bang for your buck.

The expansive set of free (or next to free) things to do in the fall around Philadelphia continues. While this week has some age restrictions, look closely because there are a lot of big venues offering up some great deals this week.

Philadelphia-born and internationally acclaimed musician Teddy Pendergrass has been working in the music industry since 1968, performing as both a drummer and singer. In 1976, he started his career as a solo artist and became the first black male singer to record five multi-platinum albums in a row.

As mentioned in yesterday's News, the Kimmel Center will be getting a new President and CEO. Anne Ewers will commence her three-year contract in July and is replacing Janice C. Price, who left in September to manage an arts festival in Toronto.

We always get a little sad when the main classical music season ends and all the musicians go to their fun summer festivals. But, this can only mean that the Mann Center's season is just around the corner!

In case the oppressive heat wasn't reminder enough - let Phillyist re-iterate for you: SUMMER IS HERE, in all it's sticky, humid glory. To celebrate, the Kimmel Center will be offering 19 hours of entertainment this weekend, beginning with a performance by the Philadelphia Orchestra at 11AM on Saturday, ending with a drum circle come 5AM Sunday morning, with all sorts of stuff in between.

Somebody Set Us Up the Bomb: The Lunabomber is trying to resurrect the "All Your Base" meme in honor of its fifth year. Phillyist is happy to help, because we'd rather see "All Your Base" make a triumphant return than the dreaded Dancing Hamsters.

Dan Rubin at Blinq tells us that yesterday was the most depressing day of the year - which we suppose means the rest of the year will be full of sunshine and lollipops, scientifically speaking. Here's what the rest of the blogosphere was talking about while the winter blues were still on (now that they're over we assume everyone's left their computer for celebratory dancing in the street):

The Kimmel Center, that bastion of good taste and excessive use of glass on the Avenue of the Arts, opens its doors to all this November. Their Free in the Plaza! festival brings classical, jazz, world music, and dance to the people without the heart attack-inducing prices. On Sunday, November 13, Svitanya, an Eastern European Women's Vocal Ensemble, will “evoke the spirit of traditional village music” with a cappella songs sung in their original languages. More importantly, they'll be wearing those awesome old-fashioned costumes.

We're back for more Philadelphia blogosphere, this week featuring some familiar subjects (Philly Future! Albert Yee!) and some not-so-familiar subjects (Fiona Apple! Jennifer Weiner! JOHNNY GOODTIMES!)

Whenever we get a press release in our Phillyist inbox, we always laugh and sometimes even titter. We're not that rootin', tootin' mainstream media, we scream! But thanks for thinking of us!
