Contrary to what perceptions might be, environmentalism does not always equal extremism. Being environmentally conscious does not mean forsaking your interests and living in a shack in the woods. It is important, though, to be increasingly aware of the impact that you and your actions are making.

Fun around town, for $10 or less:
Scary fact: There are 17,000 petrochemicals available for home use, but only 30% of them have been tested for exposure to human health and the environment. Nobody likes scrubbing the bathroom – that in itself is scary enough. But if you stop and think for a minute, you really won't want to do another second of cleaning when you realize the potential damage you could be doing with the products that you've selected. So step away from those Scrubbing Bubbles and try something a little greener.

It's about damn time. The Inquirer reports that yesterday administrators announced 80 additional policemen would join those already working in the 12th Police District in Southwest Philadelphia, the city's most beleaguered district. The public and the media watched as officials held a roll call of 80 uniformed police at 60th Street and Woodland Avenue yesterday afternoon.

Nothing says ‘ I didn’t put any aesthetic effort into this party and screw the environment’ more than paper plates and plastic cups. True, they are easy for large crowds, will eventually biodegrade after a zillion years in a faraway landfill YOU don’t have to live near and who wants to spend Sunday washing wine glasses or beer steins with a hangover?

- Montgomery County resident David Downey can't keep it in his pants - less than a week after being freed on $250K bail for third degree murder charges for feeding a 17 year old 'escort' a lethal dose drugs and paying off a couple of people to dispose of the body, he violated his bail by having a professional booty call in Upper Merion. At least he didn't kill this one.
- Governor Ed Rendell is opposing a proposed Environmental Protection Agency regulation that would "limit public access to information about the chemicals companies legally release into the air." Current regulations state that any 500 pound release of certain chemicals must be reported yearly. The proposed regulations would raise the release amount to 5,000 pounds and require only biennial reporting. Perhaps the EPA should change their name to something else, because it certainly doesn't seem like the agency is too interested in protecting the environment. Six former heads of the EPA agree.
- There's a rapist on the loose in Center City - if you live in the Rittenhouse Square area, ladies, now might be the time to brush up on your self-defense skills.
