Somewhere, we're not sure where, on this Phillyist's top ten list of favorite things in the whole wide world (which contains no fewer than fourteen items) are entries for "good local bands" and "gratuitous references to Coen Brothers movies." So I could hardly contain my excitement when I heard about Liam and Me (MySpace), a local band that draws their name from one of the most memorable lines from . Fun around town, for $10 or less:
As it gets closer to Halloween for LAist, a contributer recollects her tale of staring down the serial killer, Richard Ramirez, otherwise known as the Night Stalker. Must think happy thoughts -- okay, free organic chocolate chip cookies for Los Angeles -- now that's a happy thought. Other happy Los Angeles thoughts include an interview with Jack Kehler of The Big Lebowski (he was the Dude's landlord), a beautiful and magical photographic moment in Venice and the press making the speaker of the California State Assembly, Fabian Nunez, run away when being asked hard questions about sketchy luxurious and worldly expenses.
Ah, the Trocadero - is there anything it can't do? It's a burlesque house, a concert hall, and, once a week, a movie theater. For a $3 fee (which can be applied towards concessions), you can see movies on their big screen. Phillyist is pretty sure this is the only movie theater in town where you can drink and smoke while you talk back at the screen. Next showing will be Monday the 14th, when The Troc will be screening . The Troc is located at 1003 Arch Street, and Movie Monday's start at 8PM.
