  • A group of African-American firefighters have sued the Philadelphia Fire Fighters Union Local 22, accusing the union of being "racially harassing and abusive" to African-Americans.

  • And speaking of last night's game, check out this "Dewey Defeats Truman"-esque headline that was posted on MLB.com before last night's game was even over. FAIL. (Via Preston & Steve.)

  • It's been awhile since we've had a Teachers Gone Wild story; but rest assured, they're still out there. Our latest TGW is now-former Council Rock High School teacher Robert Hawkins, who allegedly had a five-month sexual relationship with a seventeen-year-old student. (Hawkins is 43.)

    • Fourteen members of a Chester gang were arrested in an early-morning raid yesterday.
    • The budget approved by the City Council, which would increase sales tax (temporarily, so they say) and make major changes to the city's pension fund payments, may face stiff opposition when it goes to the state legislature for approval.
    • A squeaky clean looking math teacher at North Penn High School is being charged with having sex with a student and sending sexually explicit messages to that student and another over the Internet.

  • What began as a routine traffic stop turned into a fatal crash. Chris Jones, who was a 10-year veteran of the Middletown Township Police Department, passed yesterday following the accident. There was a chain reaction that pushed his police cruiser forward, pinning him beneath the auto.
  • More than a dozen Gloucester County residents, including a teacher, have been arrested as part of a statewide crackdown on the possession and distribution of computer pornography involving children. • As we're sure you've noticed, we're big fans of Teachers Gone Wild here at Asshole of the Week. It seems like every week there's at least one story about a drug-dealing coach or a pedophillic teacher. But this week, one story got us thinking: how much blame can we put on the academic institutions who hire these people? Usually, we think the answer is "Not much." After all, people will go a long way to hide their transgressions, and in most cases, the schools will terminate the offenders in short order after the misdeeds come to light.

  • Officials at the Hunting Park campus of Community Education Partners discovered on Sunday that one of their teachers - Arnesx Honore, 32 - had had his picture published the previous Friday among those of the city's most violent fugitives. They suspended him and police arrested him on Tuesday. Officials knew he had been arrested for assault, but also knew that the charges had been dropped. They didn't know that the assault had involved a minor (a 14-year-old girl, whose daughter he apparently fathered), and that the charges were refiled July of last year.
  • We love stories about local bureaucratic idiocy. They're always good for a laugh or two, but we do tend to forget about them five minutes after we've read them. And then there's the story of Edward Stanley Harris. By now, we're sure you all know the story. This guy had been hassled annually by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation for 17 years over some parking tickets that his twin brother, Edwin Shelby Harris (insert plethora of jokes about the stupidity involved in naming your twin sons Edward Stanley and Edwin Shelby here), had racked up back in 1990 and '91, but never paid. Every year, poor Edward had to go explain to the Philadelphia Traffic Court that they weren't his tickets. Well, this year, when Edward received his annual notice that his license would be suspended if he didn't pay "his" tickets and went to make his annual visit to the court, Judge Willie Adams (!!!

There were some strong contenders for Asshole of the Week this week, a couple of whom probably might have won on another week. But this week, there was one asshole who stood knees and ankles below the rest. Our Asshole of the Week is...
