  • It was announced yesterday that a company called Pacifica Ventures would be opening a $75 million "entertainment production facility" (read: film studio) in the Delaware Valley by the fall of 2008 - and it's all thanks to our new tax-incentive package for filmmakers. "Pacifica is looking at sites in Bucks, Delaware and Philadelphia Counties for a 500,000-square-foot facility."
  • Some news on area bridges: first, be aware that the South Street Bridge is going to be closed overnight tonight, from 9PM to 5AM, for routine maintenance (read: they're going to try to keep it from crumbling into the river for a little bit longer). Second, the Inquirer has an article with some more details about next year's $100 million-plus reconstruction project on the Walt Whitman Bridge.
  • Finished within the last year, this newly-landscaped part of Fairmount Park lies between the Waterworks Restaurant and the Spring Garden Street Bridge, from which the photo was taken.

    Although the South Street Bridge itself is all but falling apart, the views it offers of our skyline are perfect. Market West and Rittenhouse skyscrapers rise to a peak then retreat symmetrically, as if someone plucked each building from above and placed it back down with intentional design.

    This past Saturday, I was walking east over the Walnut Street Bridge. Just as I passed World Café Live, I heard trombones. Or at least one trombone. I assumed it was coming from inside, but the further east I got, the louder the music became. I was entirely exhausted and assumed that perhaps I was just losing my mind. No, I’ve never imagined brass instruments before, but, hey, I’m weird. Anything’s possible… including playing the trombone while rollerblading, which was exactly what I finally saw a gentleman doing directly across the street from me.

    So maybe a week of rain isn't the best time to ask you about your favorite place to stand outside and wait for food. But Phillyist wants to know: what's your favorite food truck in the city?
