On Monday, I'm starting something like Weight Watchers—which is to say I'm starting Weight Watchers without actually paying to start Weight Watchers. There are plenty of online tools and recipe databases that will help me without my needing to pay a monthly fee. I already know how many "Points" I can consume every day, and approximately how many points each of my favorite foods are. A friend started the plan this way a few weeks ago, and so far, it's working for her, so I thought I'd give it a try.

When Phillyist went on the Unemployment Diet, we lost fifteen pounds. While it probably wasn't a terribly healthy way to lose weight, we were a lot closer to our target weight than we had been in the months prior, and we looked and felt better than we had in some time.

The South Beach Diet people were out at 12th and Filbert this morning, across from the Reading Terminal Market, handing out free breakfast bars and filming...something...in the back of their van. Some kind of weird softcore porn video? No, probably not. Probably they were trying to make passers-by feel like they were on the beach in the middle of a (finally actually frigid) Philly winter. Or something. Anyway, that lady in the swimsuit waved and smiled at me after I took this picture.

Our friends at Parisist get the lead today, because they wrote to let us know that they're still alive. We're glad, Parisist; we were really worried! Stay safe!
