  • News from the court: North Philadelphia Democratic ward leader Carlos Matos was sentenced yesterday "to three years in prison and fined $50,000 for bribing three Atlantic City councilmen in the hope they would help him get a role in several development projects." Meanwhile, Richard Kitcherman, the 31-year-old Philadelphian convicted of killing and dismembering his father in July of 2005, will be sentenced today.

And now, a story of rebirth:

  • A fun new product may be appearing in Philly soon. It's a brand of ice cream for dogs called Frost Bite, and its creator, Jeffrey Walker of Boston, was in town last week peddling samples of the stuff (out of an ice cream truck, of course) at dog parks and runs in Center City and the Northern Liberties. The trial went well, so Walker hopes to open what will be his third doggie ice cream parlor in our city. Walker even makes custom flavors of his ice cream with herbal remedies mixed in to treat various health problems. But how does it taste, you ask? The Daily News talked to one human who sampled it and who says, "It's really not bad." So there you go. Good enough for a human, but designed for a dog. (We want the credit if Walker uses that catchphrase.)
  • Shanghaiist probably knows a little more about China than the Chicago Sun-Times. Giving them the benefit of the doubt on that one. The city does to have a music scene. Don't even front like they don't. They also have Dorito bananas and white guys shopping for wives. What they don't have is any more tolerance for jaywalkers.

In their attempt to wrangle fans into a beautiful park that is home to a still unproven team, the Phillies are hosting College Nights when tickets bought online are $7 off for students, faculty and alumni (yes! I knew I kept that thing for a reason!). (Editor's Update Okay, so the tickets aren't actually $7 like we said before. It's still a good deal, though.) Scheduled college nights: April 19, 20, 24, 26, 27 and May 7.

Editor's note: It's rare that we step out of our collective voice/pants to let someone steal the spotlight. In our history, we've only done it when (a) the Pope did a guest spot in our 30 Days of Easter series, (b) we put up a "Day as Phillyist Editor" for bid and Singularist won, (c) we just felt like wingin' it. Today, we let Tom Durso, the newest member of our team, don the slim-fit pants before diving into the big waistline that is Phillyist.

You snag a date with that hot bartender; she gets four numbers the same night. You hit a triple at the company softball game; he scores the winning runs. Sure, we're all about the brotherly love, but sometimes your best friend can be the last person you want around. Philly's hilarious 1812 Productions tackles this painfully funny topic in a FREE reading of Itamar Moses' comedy The Four of Us tonight. The Four of Us details the friendship between Benjamin and David as one succeeds while the other struggles. The play follows a lifelong friendship through success and jealousy.
