Performances: Waitstaff Wit' (future performances) I have never seen a Fringe show before. Call me uncultured, but I just never had the chance to make it to one. So, I was excited to see last night's show at L'Etage. Waitstaff Wit' Waitstaff Wit' is an evening of enlightening monologues from a sketch comedy troupe. Their show reminded me of Saturday Night Live, but better. The show opened with Starzina Starfish-Browne, played by Eric Singel. Mrs.......

Look outside. Depressing, depressing and depressing. The weekend was just what the doctor ordered and then, as if by divine (demonic?) intervention, everything is prepared to ensure that Monday remains just that: Monday. DIE ACTOR DIE Die Actor Die is a monthly comedy show put on by our very own Don Montrey (who recently interviewed friends and fellow funny-folk, Meg and Rob). It's going to be funny, cheap and about as anti-Monday as you......

Normally we could start this post with some quip about chasing off the winter doldrums with some laughter. But seeing as how the mercury is riding high today, and should be for a while, we got nothing. That’s why we’re not comedians. Luckily, there are some very talented folks who are, and they are presenting a 5-day smorgasbord of improv and sketch comedy goodness for your gluttonous consumption. Philly Improv Theater’s Shubin Week starts tonight......

Philadelphia’s premiere sketch comedy troupe, The Waitstaff, will be performing at the World Café Live this Saturday evening. The Waitstaff has been performing locally for years, and has also garnered acclaim following a variety of national performance engagements. Most recently, The Waitstaff was one of fifty groups to compete in The Great Sketch Experiment, which was held at Duke University, and sponsored by JibJab.com. Their performance this weekend is made up of entirely new......

Texas is thawing, the Northeast is freezing, and a sort of natural order seems almost restored to the Ist-A-Verse. Almost. Londonist HQ—that is to say, the city of London—was battered by heavy winds, making it a bad time to be a twelve-meter (nearly forty-foot) tall snowman. Still, not everyone decided to keep warmly covered. Meanwhile, back indoors, the Big Brother racism is now causing all kinds of headaches for international diplomats, and Londonist got into......

What's new and/or interesting in Philly theaters this weekend. Twelve and Holding - A coming-of-age film with what looks like equal parts goofy adolescent comedy and dark, intense drama. Basically it's a handful of twelve-year-olds coming to terms with the fact that their parents are human and life sucks sometimes, these discoveries being brought on by the sudden and tragic death of the main character's twin brother. Sounds like it could be rewarding, but tough......

Does your heart long for the sea while waves make your innards shudder? Well, if you can stomach sketch comedy without the Dramamine, Comic Energy might have a cure for the winter blahs. Cruise to Nowhere is a landlocked evening of cruise ship-themed sketch comedy, chock full of TV parodies and promising "a life-like atmosphere of an authentic cruise to the Caribbean." Phillyist hasn't seen the show, so we don't know if it will be......

Frugal in Philly is a weekly celebration of all things Philly that are fun, frugal (costing $10 or less) or free! Stop here each week to see what Philly's got to offer for those of us who haven't quite mastered the art of becoming Independently Wealthy (although believe us, we're trying).
