Just in time for tonight's party (will you be there?), Phillyist adds another new writer to the mix, this one the very talented—and extensively published—Joshua Valocchi. We'd like to emphasize that we brought him on as a writer long before he said nice things about Editor Jill's place of employment in a Philadelphia Weekly article, and that said article has nothing to do with his new position on the staff. Although Editor Jill may just...

We first heard of Architecture in Helsinki a few years ago when they were touring with Clap Your Hands Say Yeah. As in, wtf is an Architecture in Helsinki. Then we got to Troc early enough that night to find out exactly what it was: a six piece collective from Australia with a frenetic energy that made them completely irresistible. They never stopped moving. Each time they finished a song, everyone switched instruments and they started all over again. It was crazy. Their songs were so catchy we hopped up as soon as their set was over and bought both of their albums.

Well-clad in red Mary Janes, red tights, black skirt, white shirt and ascot, St. Vincent took the stage to a background of swirling, strobe light stars, chirping birds and an empty, yellow birdcage. While it might sound like the setting to a B-rate high school musical, it was the platform for Annie Clark to purvey her brand of finger-picking, guitar rock.

We're back, people, with your regular steaming hot pile of all our favorite things from around the internets.

Every Tuesday and Thursday, we'll be posting events that are going on sale during the current week. This Thursday post only collects the latest announcements, so definitely check the Tuesday post for any you may have missed.

Believe it or not, it's been almost a whole year since the alternative rock station we all knew and loved as Y100 disappeared off the airwaves, victim of a format change, and the variety of music on Philly radio got that much smaller. Luckily, Y100 didn't vanish completely. It just retreated to that same wonderful place that Phillyist calls home - the internet!

Clap Your Hands Say Yeah have been making enough Philadelphia appearances to prove that local product and lead singer Alec Ounsworth is correct when he says that they're not a New York band. (They're a sixth borough band, duh.) The band, whose self-titled debut is easily one of the year's best albums, will play another show tonight, this one at the TLA.

If you haven't noticed, we love to get press releases at Phillyist because they make us feel really important. When we're riding the Blue Line around the city (y'know, just to meet people), we carry around these releases so that bored people reading Us Weekly or National Geographic Traveler will look at us and go, "Hey, that person has a press release. That person has become important all of a sudden."

Some of you loved us and some of you hated us, but we were able to put our differences aside last night and engage in some hot, sweaty indie bobbing to the tunes of Clap Your Hands, Say Yeah!

If you're a Pitchfork Lemming attending tonight's Clap Your Hands, Say Yeah! show, you're in for a surprise: it's not a Clap Your Hands, Say Yeah! show. No, the indie darlings are opening tonight's show at the First Unitarian Church for Magnolia Electric Co.

Alex Scott started a lemonade stand to raise money. It took off, but not because the lemonade's all that good: Alex, a cancer patient, was raising money for pediatric cancer research. Alex passed away, but the stands have not: they rocketed to fame thanks to the success of racehorse Afleet Alex, who won the Preakness Stakes and the Belmont Stakes.
