Remember that time when that cute little girl threw the foul ball away during that one Phillies game? Awwwww. Remember when Bruntlett had that amazing unassisted triple play and everyone forget how much he kind of sucked? Yesssss. The season may be over, but the voting and awards aren't yet! The 2009 This Year in Baseball Awards nominees have been announced and quite a few Phils are in the running. Take a gander and vote your brains out, Philly. It's what Jimmy's walk-off double would want you to do. Voting ends December 11th.

Unless you've been hiding under a rock, you're well aware the World Series is scheduled to start today. We're sort of skeptical this rain is ever going to stop, but while we're all waiting for that to happen check out our run-down of why the Yankees suck (and some reasons why the Phillies are better) below:

The Phillies advanced to the NLCS Tuesday night in true Philly fashion: by making the whole town cower in fear, waiting until the last minute, then pulling ahead by a margin so minuscule it could have easily been wiped out in the bottom of the 9th. Tonight our Fightin's square off against the Dodgers at 8:07 p.m for Game One of the series. If the last few games serve as any indication, you might want to keep a barf bag nearby. (Note to the Phillies: It's not exciting when the wins come down to the wire, it's just nerve-wracking. Stop doing that and get big leads early instead. Then keep them. Please and thank you.)

Heidy ho, Philly! There's a "Chill Gripping Plains and Rockies" and the Phils are up a game in the NLDS. On our side of the Mississippi, it's looking like sunny skies and 70 degrees. And now, Headlines!

The MLB announced the roster for the All Star game this past weekend. The Phils pulled out with three roster spots sending Chase Utley, Raul Ibanez and Ryan Howard. And at the helm of this year's National League All Stars team is our very own Charlie Fuqua.

Ah, the transience of the MLB off-season. I, for one, am sitting on the outfield fence this year. It does seem like it was just yesterday that I was on Broad Street, climbing all over every male friend that I have in attempts to gain a bird’s-eye view of what a City of Champions truly looked like. (I mostly just got a face-full of aerial Bud Heavies and some wayward champagne spray, but I figured that came with the territory.)

ESPN.com is reporting that St. Louis Cardinals' first baseman Albert Pujols won the National League MVP Award today over the Phillies' Ryan Howard. Both have previously won the award, Pujols in 2005 and Howard in 2006.

We’ve had some amazing athletes grace our city in the last 25 years. Some of the greatest to ever play their game have suited up and thrilled the fans of Philadelphia.

Well, this Phillyist was going to write a nice little article comparing the Phillies and Rays at each position and determine who has the edge. I had this idea yesterday, but decided to hold off a day on writing it. Unfortunately, the Inquirer already wrote it this morning and I am, as Lao Tzu once said, “shit out of luck.”

The Sixers spanked the Knicks (124-84) on Wednesday night at the Wach. Tonight they will be in Orlando, then they’ll turn around and host the Magic on Wednesday at 7PM (get tickets or watch here). Here’s hoping that’ll be two for two. Tomorrow they’ll match up with the Miami Heat, against whom they are 2-0 this season.

If you haven’t heard already, Phillies shortstop Jimmy Rollins is the MVP of the National League. And there is absolutely no one that’s more deserving of the award, except for Rockies left fielder Matt Holliday. You can argue for any player winning the award. Rollins gained 16 first place votes, finishing with 353 points, edging out Holliday’s 11 first place votes and 336 points. This year’s MVP voting was precarious in that J-Roll wasn’t...

Sometimes, it's hard to resist the hate. You may not be having an especially bad day – you may in fact be in a good mood. But sometimes the snark comes so naturally that you have to marinate in it. Like it's Lawry's.

We would be terrible, awful, no good Phillies Phans (see what we did there?) if we didn't take the opportunity to congratulate Chase Utley, Cole Hamels and Aaron Rowand on their selection to the 2007 All-Star Game. We'll be honest - we were expecting that Utley would be elected starting second baseman, and we were fairly certain King Cole would make the cut on the mound. We were, however, pleasantly surprised to see Rowand make the team as a reserve. We've enjoyed watching Rowand's brand of gritty play since he was on the White Sox, and are particularly pleased that the rest of baseball appears to be taking notice.

Since spring training, it’s been the same story for the Phillies – they hit the snot out of the ball, but have huge question marks in the bullpen. Flash forward half a season and the same problem still exists. They're an average team that makes three-run leads in the seventh inning nerve-wracking. In the latest episode of late-inning drama, Geoff Geary has been so bad lately he's shaved his goatee and cut his hair in hopes that he'll get out of his recent funk.

Coming off a three-game sweep of the Mets, the Phillies headed to Kansas City to face the second worst team in baseball. “Hello, two sweeps in a row,” we thought. Our confidence soared as Ryan Howard hit a two-run home run in the first inning. “They’re not even putting up a fight,” we said, comfortably smirking. Until Freddy Garcia started pitching, with a strained right shoulder. Garcia didn't make it through two innings before he had given up six runs, en route to an 8-4 loss.

With 2 men on, a full count, two outs, and down by two in the seventh inning, Jimmy Rollins launched a high fly to deep right-field. Everyone who was watching the game held their breath – everyone but Rollins. He watched it take off, dropped his bat, took a quick skip, and began to round the bases.

To clear up any speculation of bias, we at Phillyist absolutely love the Phillies. Pat Burrell? Not so much.
