Fall-themed Martinis at Rum Bar

When Phillyist heard Rum Bar (2005 Walnut St.) was adding some new fall-themed martinis to their menu, we sent out our resident pumpkin junkies to investigate. Since we've heaped the love on Rum Bar in the past, Adam Kanter, owner/manager of Rum Bar, hooked us up with some samples so we could report back on how to get your fix of fall flavors in liquid form. (Sometimes chewing is just too much work!) With more than 140 varieties of rum and three levels of rum-flight programs for patrons to conquer (these guys do not mess around), we knew Rum Bar's fall drink offerings would not disappoint.

Foodsday Tuesday: Falling for Fall

Aside from generally awesome weather, the arrival of autumn has one big perk: fall food. Heavier and more flavorful than a summer menu, but neither as comforting nor as fattening as winter meals (if you don't count Thanksgiving, that is), fall brings with its gorgeous color palate a collection of foods you can't get fresh any other time of year. (And really, who wants pumpkin in July?) A plethora of new produce appears in supermarkets (does anyone know what to do with a five-pound bag of assorted gourds, by the way?), and restaurants roll out new menus and seasonal events. Among them, Old City's Fork Restaurant, which will (among other events in the coming weeks) hold a special fisherman's dinner on October 10—featuring fish that the guests catch themselves in a fishing excursion earlier that day.

Phillyist Does Mojitofest

Last night, Phillyist was invited to Mojitofest at G Lounge, where there were drinks, competition, drinks, a light up wall of multi-colored squares, and more drinks. Looking back on our night of debauchery and muddled mint, we are eager to share the experience: the highs, the lows, and most importantly, the drinks!

PHILLY IS HOSTING THE OLYMPICS!

Its official, Philadelphia is hosting the Olympics.

Mardi Gras passed pretty quietly in Philly this year. Okay, so it was cold outside, but we’re not usually a town that ignores a reason to celebrate. At least the Cruzan Rum specials drew a crowd to Rum Bar, allowing owner Adam Kanter to donate 50% more than projected to the St Bernard Project in New Orleans. Next year, Kanter hopes to end Carnival season with more of a bang by partnering with his competition around 20th and Walnut. “Mardi Gras in Philly needs a good strip of participating bars,” he says. Couldn’t make it for Fat Tuesday? On Friday, March 13, Rum Bar is throwing its monthly Full Moon party.

Mardi Gras at the Rum Bar

The Rum Bar has one of our favorite menus in the city, and we can’t think of a friendlier place that channels New Orleans’ passion for food and flavor. Stop by for Happy Hour this coming Tuesday to see steel drummer Kristian Paradis take the floor. Mardi Gras drink specials featuring Cruzan Rum will start at 6 PM, with $1 from each Cruzan drink sold will going towards New Orleans’ St. Bernard Project, a charity that reconstructs homes in the city’s 9th Ward. Tonight, owner Adam Kanter and his staff celebrate their two year anniversary with $2 drink specials, DJ Natev, and giveaways. The party kicks off at 20th and Walnut at 9 PM.

It be International Talk Like a Pirate Day, and there be many ways to celebrate. The Franklin Real Pirates exhibit is a natural choice, though on the pricier side; as an added bonus, however, "Cap'n Slappy" and "Ol' Chumbucket," founders of the holiday in question, will be on hand, and there will be a screening of Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl at 8PM.

Do you like wine? Of course, we all do!
