sendakianaOn Sept. 19 The Rosenbach Museum & Library introduces 130 new works from its vast Maurice Sendak collection in its exhibition There's a Mystery There: Sendak on Sendak, replacing all 130 items which have been on display since the exhibition opened in May 2008.

HOW MUCH: $15-25

Though Maurice Sendak may be best known for writing and illustrating the beloved children’s book Where the Wild Things Are, many of his now grown-up fans may be surprised to hear his alternate universe of monsters and scrappy kids exploring dark forests and city streets has been featured in over a hundred books, along with television shows and stage plays.

It's that time of year folks, when we all lay down plans for the new year before promptly "forgetting" about them a month later. I'm hoping that making mine public will force me to stick to them... but check back with me in February.

The Center City Opera Theater wraps up its run of the world premiere of Lieberman's . You can read the Inquirer's take on it here.

Phillyist has a confession to make: We have never made it through James Joyce's Ulysses. Not even a little. We've tried. Oh, how we've tried. But though we've failed more times than we'd like to admit, we console ourselves that those with better minds have thrown their hands up in disgust and screamed, "Okay I get it! It's the *&%*#$ Odyssey! Jesus, at least Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man was under 200 pages!"

As a lead-in to tomorrow’s Bloomsday Celebration, literati will be taking up a pub crawl in Joyce’s honor. The show gets rolling at 7:30 p.m. tonight at Fergie’s Pub (1214 Sansom Street), then continues with an Irish bar tour to McGillin’s (1310 Drury Street), Irish Pub (1123 Walnut Street) and Fadó (1500 Locust Street). If you don’t know your Ulysses from your Odyssey and are going to meet some book folks tonight, we suggestion you join in the fun at McGillin’s since Fergie’s will host a Joyce-themed discussion.

However, lots of other people do - so much so that each year on June 16th, the anniversary of the book's events (all of the action takes place over the course of one day), people celebrate the book with manuscript (parts of which will be on display during the Bloomsday celebration).

) in a bookcase previously owned by Herman Melville. Luckily, on April 1st and 2nd, The Rosenbach will be hosting the Wild Things Whirligig - a live, musical performance based on the works of museum trustee and children's books author/illustrator, Maurice Sendak.

Let's face it: for most of us, Halloween is just an excuse to dress like a slut. Slutty nurse. Slutty cop. Slutty cat. Slutty nun...

This is sheer speculation, but we're guessing his method was a bit more thorough their our own personal research into vampire lore, which focused largely on the Hammer Horror catalogue of films. (Did you see the part in the latest Star Wars when Anakin fought Count Dracula? It was awesome.)

The Rosenbach Museum and Library and The Spiral Q Puppet Theater will be joining forces again this year for the Dracula Puppet Parade (which we'll tell you more about next week) - and in preparation this weekend they are inviting kids of all ages to come to the Rosenbach (2008 DeLancey) for a hands-on costume workshop.
