Let’s get this out of the way early: The Eagles season is still, for all intents and purposes, OVER. To have a chance at the playoffs, they would have to win every game but one. And that is good because the game against the Patriots can already be put in the books. The team from New England is going to stomp the Eagles like Editor Jill running into a disgusting, yet otherwise harmless, cockroach. When you factor in games like the visit to clearly superior Dallas, the trip to struggling yet dangerous New Orleans, and a likely chokejob against a stiff like Miami or Buffalo, the Eagles really have no chance in hell of making the playoffs. But that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy yourself and laugh your ass off when the Birds eke out a game that they had no business winning against the self-sabotaging Washington Redskins. If that team should happen to have a nickname that is abhorrent to a whole race of people, so be it! So sit back, relax and soak in the glory of this meaningless, mid-November victory against a hopeless also-ran! It’s diary-time!

Fresh off a thousand word treatise on how some dude recently ate potato chips while peeing in the stall next to me, I did not have the energy to write a linear story on the Eagles' Monday night debacle against the Redskins. Instead I decided to take a page out of the book of ESPN.com’s comedic genius Bill Simmons, and write about the hometown team in diary style. So to the anonymous Philly expat in New York who used my latest piece as a platform to whine about how we don’t cover sports here at the Phillyist, this one’s for you:

What's new and/or interesting on TV this week.

How cruel of the Eagles to win on Monday night, pulling us all back into the hunt for the playoffs like that. Why did they have to beat a Panthers team expected to win Super Bowl XLI and take their spot in the playoff ladder? Why couldn’t Jeff Garcia have just embarrassed himself and taught coach Andy Reid a lesson for not opting for A.J. Feely? Why did they have to build our hopes back up, only to disappoint us in heartbreaking fashion?

There was nothing else. A blanket of slate clouds shrouded the sun and blue sky. The misty fog which enveloped Lincoln Financial Field veiled most of the already irrelevant outside world. For those fans like myself sitting in the lower levels, not even the parking lot or other newly constructed sporting venues were visible. There was just this. No worrying about grocery shopping; no fantasizing of love interests; no wallowing in thoughts of returning to work the following morning. None of that mattered to those who had convened upon the stone sanctuary at 3501 South Broad Street. It would be sacrilegious for disciples of the Eagles to divert even an ounce of energy away from the game.

Oh, readers, how we love you! We were halfway through this post when the gods of the internet decided not to shine favorably on us and we lost everything. But, afraid to disappoint, we started over again from scratch. That's how much we care.

We've read all of the negative columns and blog posts. We've bashed just about every Eagle to our friends. We've listened to WIP so much that we think we'd be better off just flogging ourselves.

Everything seemed a little too familiar during last night's Eagles loss to the Washington Redskins. T.O., as you have undoubtedly heard by now, was suspended without pay, suspended with pay, deactivated or something before last night's game and the Eagles went to work without him. A 56-yard TD reception by Owens replacement Reggie Brown soothed Eagles fans early on, but it didn't last long. The once-dominant Eagles defense missed tackles and let the Washington Redskins have their way with them in the air. In the Before T.O. (B.T.O.) years, the Eagles used to win tight games despite their slow, spread-the-ball offense. Tonight, though, the Redskins played like the Eagles of old with timely offensive plays from various players and solid defense.

- CBS is reporting during their broadcast of today's Chargers/Jets game that Andy Reid has announced that Terrell Owens is not suspended, but rather, inactive. Reid wishes to keep his options open, he told reporters. We're not really NFL rules experts here at Phillyist, but we're pretty sure coaches can activate and deactivate players up until game time. So, who knows. There are about 5 more hours to go until game time, so Owens could be activated, suspended, released, re-signed and signed to a record deal in that time. We'll provide updates, if there are any.

Howard Eskin just reported on WIP that Eagles star wide receiver Terrell Owens will be suspended indefinitely for conduct detrimental to the team. Owens will definitely miss Sunday night's game against the Washington Redskins, and may in fact be out longer than that. Owens recently criticized quarterback Donovan McNabb and the entire Eagles organization in an interview with ESPN.

Chris Mortensen is reporting at ESPN.com that Terrell Owens has told the Eagles that he may not be available for the Eagles' next two games against the Washington Redskins and the Dallas Cowboys.
