The Daily News is once again showing Philly that single is sexy. But is sexy single? Of course not, that makes no sense. Regardless, Phillyist is giving some local singles the attention they too "deserve."

A steaming hot pile of our favorite things from around the internets. Phillyist Sarah is always tempting this Phillyist with articles on food blogs about inventive things to do with bacon, but this may be our favorite yet - bacon chocolate chip cookies with maple cinnamon glaze. Imagine Homer Simpson with his held tilted back, his eyes glazed over, and drool dripping out of his mouth, and you will understand our reaction. The first Speed...

    Dear Readers:

As the world holds its breath, teetering precariously on the cusp of the Super Bowl (well, at least in America), the wheels of the -ists keep on turning.

  • Yesterday was Unity Day in Philadelphia, the 28th occurrence of this yearly event celebrating families and community pride, featuring dozens of free musical performances. Unfortunately, Unity Day also means lots of road closings: MLK Drive, Kelly Drive around the art museum, and the Ben Franklin Parkway from Eakins Oval to 20th were all closed until 9PM. Hope you found your way to where you needed to go anyway...

is holding a casting call this Thursday at the CBS 3 studios at 5th and Market. Ex-American Idol wanna-bes, and now this.  Can we take this much reality?
  • Is Philadelphia the new Silicon Valley?  We only ask because we came across a pair of breast implant-related posts yesterdays. First, D-Mac tipped us off about the Borgata sexual harasment case - which, among the complaints, alleges that supervisors at the Borgata encouraged their female employees to get breast implants.  Soon afterwards we came across this casting call on Craigslist and noticed that for the "busty" role, Silicon breasts are "preferred."  Phillyist hopes this isn't the start of a Philly-centric breast augmentation trend.  We shudder to imagine the Rodin collection redone with fake knockers.
  • Speaking of body-parts, we'd like to thank Dan Rubin for the most nightmare inducing beginning to a blog post this week: "Hundreds of Americans are walking around with pieces of dead people inside them."  Fortunately, the story didn't turn out to be as

  • Well, it's a good week to enjoy all the activities the city has to offer, or maybe stretch out reading that new Harry Potter book, because, when it comes to television, things are looking positively dismal. Aside from the wonders of Shark Week and the always recommendable Philadelphia Stories (WYBE, Tuesday and Saturday, 10 pm), the pickings are slim. Two more reality shows premeire this week, proving that the reality trend will not dry up until it has exhausted every last possibility several times over.

http://www.cbs.com/primetime/rock_star/">Rock Star: INXS, a strange experiment in which fifteen performers (most of whom look too young to have ever heard INXS on the radio) audition to replace INXS's lead singer Michael Hutchence, who killed himself in 1997. According to the CBS website:

For those of who prefer "educational and cultural" to "shameless and sensational", Philadelphia Stories airs this week on Tuesday and Saturday [10 pm, WYBE]. Tuesday's show includes: Ballycastle, which follows Manayunk-based painter Stuart Shils; Mother Divine, a short film by Philly independent filmmaker Jeff P. Elstone II; and Divine Lorraine Hotel, which was produced by Christina Ortiz, age 14, and highlights Philly's formerly magnificent -- and now crumbling -- landmark. Saturday's film is Under New Management: Student Voices & School Reform in Philadelphia. According to WYBE, "This documentary examines the first year of privatization of the Philadelphia Public School System by focusing primarily on those who are affected the most by this reform: the students and their families."
