The shapeless dough of the internet, formed into tasty pellets and baked to perfection, just for you.
Ah, what I wouldn't give to be the average George Bush supporter at this very moment in time. If I could, then I could delusionally ignore what I have just seen and pretend like everything is all right with "the home team." Yes, the Eagles just thoroughly dominated the overmatched Jets! Yes, there are WMDs hidden behind one of the flat-screen TVs in Saddam Hussein's palatial domain that just haven't been found yet! Yes, voting an actor from Law & Order to the highest position of responsibility in the world would go a long way toward restoring our luster in the eyes of the world. But, no, I am a realist, and as a realist I know two things: 1) Bush should have been impeached three years ago and 2) The Eagles are about as "out of the woods" as the Unabomber was out of the woods. Rejoice in this victory if you must but realize that if this is as good as it gets, you might actually have to start giving a rat's ass about the Flyers before long. On to the diary!

A Quirky Column about Dog Walking Adventures in the City of Dog-Owning Love
There's so much going on across the Ist-a-Verse that it's almost impossible to keep track these days. Fortunately, we do it so you don't have to!
We don't know about where you are, but it seems like spring can't decide whether or not to happen. Some days are warm, some days are cold, and sometimes you aren't sure which. Baseball may have started up (and soccer/football winding down) but it still seems cold out there. Unless it's not. Anyways, onto the -ists.

Normally we wouldn't be particularly interested in a kids' cartoon movie about a sheltered pet rat getting flushed down the toilet only to land in the middle of a whole city of rats, and a dangerous adventure he never could have imagined. But this movie was made by Aardman Animations, and we love Aardman Animations. These are the guys responsible for the classic stop-motion, clay-animated "Wallace & Gromit" shorts, as well as Chicken Run, and the recent Wallace & Gromit movie. They have a wonderful visual style and sense of humor, and even though Flushed Away is done using computer animation instead of the classic clay, both their style and humor come through effortlessly intact. Sometimes the characters even seem to be made of some magical, digital clay.

A steaming hot pile of our favorite things from around the internets. The trailer for The Matrix, redone entirely in CGI, and recast entirely with Muppets. The CGI isn't the best (which is understandable, given that this is a student project), but the casting is excellent. Rizzo the Rat as Cypher? Brilliant! Btw, make sure to stay through to the end; there's an amusing epilogue. (Via Jill) Apropos has got some great treadmill-related links today....
- Phillybits spots an UFO. Luckily, not only did he have his DV cam at the ready, but there was also a band playing nearby to provide a rockin' soundtrack.
In honor of Phillyist's favorite holiday, we're delving into the darker side of Philadelphia's nightlife to spotlight Scaryoke at Ulana's (2nd and Bainbridge Streets). Part of "Despondent Heaven" (a weekly Goth-night featuring gothic, metal, industrial, punk, and new wave music party), Scaryoke is just what you'd imagine it is: Goth Karaoke (We guess not everyone likes to sing Petula Clark's greatest hits when crooning for strangers). Phillyist has heard good things about Scaryoke - and the second we manage to stay up late enough to attend (Despondent Heaven starts at 9PM, but Scaryoke doesn't get started 'till midnight) we're all about it. And we're pretty sure could be considered Goth, if you performed it right. Despondent Heaven is $3, and you must be 21 or older to get in.
