This year's DanceBOOM! closes tomorrow, but true to form, The Wilma theater. made sure that its final week of programming was its best. The dancers, singers, and percussionists of Raices Culturales Latinoamericanas, a nonprofit group dedicated to "increasing public awareness of the beauty and diversity of Latin American culture through music and dance performances" greeted DanceBOOM! patrons and Broad Street passersby alike, fully ready to embrace, and able to prove, their organization's mission. I remember enjoying the group at last year's DanceBOOM! festivities, and I was happy to see them back in front of the Wilma. They're really good fun, and were it not for my highly impractical shoes, I would have loved to join them when they invited the audience forward.

The final week of this year's DanceBOOM! at The Wilma Theater will feature a whole evening with an old favorite of Phillyist's: BalletX. We loved them last summer at DanceBOOM! and during last fall's PLAF, so we're really psyched to see their world premiere of "I Like You Different," choreographed by company founders Christine Cox and Matthew Neenan, along with fan favorites "Menscheit" and "Frequencies." If this weekend's production is anything at all like past BalletX performances we've seen, expect lots of impeccable ballet technique combined with a modern aesthetic and some really rockin' contemporary music.
DanceBOOM! opened at the Wilma last night with an outdoor pre-performance by Raices Culturales Latinoamericanas, and indoor performances by Reactionaries, Tania Isaac Dance, and Chris Aiken. Phillyist was there and loved every minute of it (albeit some minutes more than others.)
