Bands I Caught: Fursaxa, Fan of Friends, War on Drugs, King Kong Ding Dong

Venue: Starlight Ballroom

At the POPPED! opening night party this Monday, I got the pleasure of visiting the upstairs ladies' room at Johnny Brenda's. This may be one of the prettiest bathrooms I've seen in town. Yup, that's right: the decor in this restroom is simplistically beautiful.

With two big-deal festivals—POPPED! and the Philadelphia Film Festival—in Philly right now, Phillyist staffers have been running around like so many proverbial headless chickens: madly moving from place-to-place so fast they seem out of control. Also, headless chickens, from what we hear, have a little bit of trouble eating. (Of course, for them, it's physiological: for us, it's a matter of scheduling.)

We resisted writing about this because we'll be out of town and therefore unable to experience its awesomeness. Then we got over ourselves. Next week is the first annual POPPED! Festival, which runs from Monday, April 9 to Sunday, April 15. Our earlier allusion to your hymen comes from the fact that as much as you try to be in the know, you may not be as familiar with some of the bands as you'd like. Never fear, XPN is here. (Never thought we'd write that.) We've seen coverage about it on other media outlets, but we like this page because we can listen to mp3s from some of the bands, watch videos, and click links for prime MySpace stalking. If we were in town we'd turn on and tune in to Pattern is Movement, Dr. Dog, and Golden Ball, at a minimum.

It isn't for a little while now, when the weather will hopefully be a little bit warmer (although Phillyist makes no promises to that end), but we figured that the POPPED! festival, April 9-15, needs to be on your radar already.
