It’s finally over with. The Phillies have lost their 10,000th game. That being said, and accepted, it barely matters to the realist who watched the Phillies get hammered by a score of 10-2, thereby losing a game to the Mets and the Braves in the NL East standings. At least they didn’t really tease us into thinking they could win the game. The Phillies have long had the most losses of any sports franchise in...

ac4ltjeffconine.jpgRainy Sundays aren't usually good for much. The malls and movie theaters are jammed, the parks in Center City are, shall we say, outdoors, and you can't play baseball.

So the Phillies made two trades. Whoopee. Did they get who they wanted for two first class major leaguers? No. Not by far.

Instead of writing a long screed about Phillies pitcher Brett Myers allegedly beating his wife (so bad, in fact, that it garnered multiple 911 calls) and the Phillies’ piss poor handling of the situation i.e. letting him pitch this weekend, we’ll let Myers’ and GM Pat Gillick’s comments stand for themselves. They’re more powerful and disgusting than anything we could ever write. Emphasis ours.

We had so much hope in Ryan Madson, the hot young thing that could be the stable leg in the Phillies' starting rotation. Wrong. He got shelled last night for nine runs, and it only took him an inning and some change to do it. Hey, we know it happens, but this is a bad time for a Phillies pitcher to self-destruct early in a game, especially with a bullpen that’s already overtaxed. They managed to hold the Nats to one more run for a 10-4 loss, which give the Phillies a whopping 2-7 record at home.

Gonna find my blog, gonna hold it tight. Gonna grab some afternoon delight. My motto's always been; when it's right (you know, conservative), it's right. Why wait until the middle of a cold dark night to blog? (yeah, that doesn't rhyme) When everything's a little clearer in the light of day. And you know the night is always gonna be there any way. (We're just not trying any more) Blog rockets in flight. Afternoon delight. Afternoon delight. (You know, because we're posting this in the afternoon) Anyways, here's your frolic through the Philadelphia blogosphere for the week:

It's like ist, and like that, and like ist, huh? Here's your weekly wrap-up of what's going on across the world, courtest of the Gothamist network.

The most interesting facet about the Phillies' just-concluded search for a new general manager isn't that they hired a proven winner who had built three other franchises into playoff teams and was the architect of the fantastic Blue Jays squads of the early '90s, squads that won a pair of World Series.

The Phillies will announce today at noon that 68-year-old Pat Gillick is their new General Manager, replacing former GM Ed Wade, who was fired on Oct. 10.
