Happy Father's Day! For those of you who have dads, are dads, or know dads, this one's for you, from all of us at the Gothamist network.

The news has just broken that Philadelphia has been eliminated from contention to host the 2016 Summer Olympics. The three cities that did make the cut were Chicago, Los Angeles and San Francisco. Houston was the other city eliminated of the five that were under consideration by the United States Olympic Committee.

  • The Philadelphia Traithlon cancelled the swim section this weekend, but ironically the cancellation had nothing to do with the fears that plagued the area the past two weeks of the Schuylkill being polluted by toxic substances. Instead, the problem was substantial amounts of debris in the water. The article isn't clear about the exact nature of the debris, but we're hoping it was just stuff like branches and leaves that had fallen in due to all the rain. And not, like, chunks of twisted metal or something.
  • - It's an -ist Olympic throwdown! The US Olympic Committee is considering Philly as a possible 2016 venue, as well as Houston, Chicago, LA and San Francisco. Which doesn't mean we and our sister -ists can't stay friends. After all, there's no guarantee the US will bid to host a game that year anyway. Just in case, be extra good on Tuesday - that's when the USOC will be here. (via)
