After five months of unemployment, I'm happy to say I'm now in a job that was worth the wait. I love my job; I love the people I work with; I love my office. We occupy the entire floor of an Old City rowhome. There are no individual offices—we work in one big room and the ideas and conversation (and, admittedly, gossip) all flow freely. There's always music on, the decor is hip yet......

The good news for the Drexel men (12-19, 5-13) is that, unlike last year, they won't be sitting on the edges of their seats waiting to see if they get an invitation to the Big Dance. The Dragons ended their regular season with a Senior Night win over James Madison before losing on the road at Hofstra. With the regular season over, it's CAA tournament time, and Drexel will open with a matchup against Delaware.......

The Drexel women (15-11, 10-5) were looking like contenders after three straight wins, including a spanking of William & Mary. But then reality set in, in the form of #10 Old Dominion. The men (11-18, 4-12) didn't have to worry about being exposed as mediocre–everyone knew they stunk. But apparently they still felt compelled to show everyone, in the form of losses to William & Mary and Fairfield. Their regular season will sputter to a......

The Drexel Lady Dragons (14-10, 9-4) got a pair of solid home wins this week, topping Delaware and James Madison. Now they'll take the show on the road, heading to William & Mary tomorrow night before a big showdown with #10 Old Dominion on Sunday. Things weren't quite as peachy for the men (11-16, 4-11). They lost a tough double-overtime game to Old Dominion last Thursday. Fortunately, they edged out a win against Delaware over......

Drexel had one of those ho-hum weeks. The women (12-10, 7-4) split their games this week. They beat up on Georgia State before falling short against VCU. The men (10-15, 3-10) couldn't keep up with George Mason, but bounced back with a solid win over Towson. Tomorrow night, the Lady Dragons will be promoting breast cancer awareness at their home game against Delaware. The players will be wearing pink headbands and wristbands, and fans who......

The Drexel Lady Dragons (11-9, 6-3) split their games this week, losing at Northeastern before coming away with a solid road win at Hofstra. In both games, the Dragons got a big contribution from sophomore forward Gabriela Marginean, who was named Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Week for her efforts. The men (9-14, 2-9) went 0-2 (again) this week, dropping games to Georgia State and Northeastern. The two losses brings the Dragons' losing streak......

The Drexel hoopsters had a rough week. The men (9-12, 2-7) dropped an overtime game at home to William & Mary last Wednesday, then got whooped by VCU on the road. The women (10-8, 5-2) saw their nine-game winning streak come to an end with an overtime loss of their own, against Towson. Then they couldn't seal the deal against William & Mary, and ended up giving up a late lead to lose their second......

Drexel's Lady Dragons (10-6, 5-0) ran their winning streak up to nine games with a win over UNC-Wilmington on Sunday. They'll visit conference co-leading Towson tomorrow night, then host William & Mary on Sunday. The men (9-10, 2-5) spit their past couple matchups. They beat last-place Georgia State but then dropped their home game to Hofstra. Hopefully, they'll have a better showing at home tonight against William & Mary. And then they get to go......

Drexel's Lady Dragons (8-6, 3-0), led by Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Week Narissa Suber, extended their winning streak to seven games, beating Delaware and George Mason on the road. Now they'll look to keep up the winning ways at home, hosting Northeastern tomorrow night and UNC-Wilmington Sunday afternoon. The men (8-9, 1-4), on the other hand, look to stop their three-game skid as they face a couple of their fellow CAA cellar-dwellers at......

In the wake of the deadly tiger attack at the San Francisco Zoo, the Inquirer takes a look at the safety of the tiger exhibit at the Philadelphia Zoo. Seven state lawmakers, naming the city as the defendant, brought a lawsuit before the Pennsylvania Supreme Court yesterday asking that all construction of the proposed SugarHouse Casino be halted, "contending its license to build on submerged land beyond the river's edge is illegal." Chester Township......

“Shit, I could write that,” said a woman at the Bridge on Monday, when told that Juno was about a teenage pregnancy. Thing is, dear reader, so could you. Not because you found yourself trying to buy a ticket for three to your junior prom, mind; but neither Juno nor this summer’s Knocked Up stray too far from the basic emotional territory set out in Nine Months, Father of the Bride Part II, and the......

What's new and/or interesting on TV this week. Paranormal State (Mon, 10PM-11PM, A&E) - The debut of a new reality show featuring members of Penn State University's Paranormal Research Society investigating reports of paranormal phenomena. During this hour, they seem to be playing two episodes, one about a boy who can supposedly see dead people, and another about a supposedly haunted house where murders were committed. Independent Lens (Tue, 10PM-11:30PM, WHYY) - It's another Penn......

Lower Merion High School is in the news for two things this morning: one good, and one bad. After all three judges in Delaware recused themselves, a judge in Philadelphia will now decide convicted killer Thomas Capano's federal appeal of his murder conviction. Nutter announced still more appointments yesterday, filling in key ethics positions with three veteran's of the US Attorney's Office. The special agent in charge of the FBI's Philadelphia division is leaving......

The Attorney General's Office has accused Former State Rep. Frank LaGrotta of giving his relatives fake jobs in order to pay them thousands in taxpayer dollars. A cheval-de-frise (an iron-tipped log that's placed in a riverbed along with many others in order to gore the hulls of enemy warships) was recently found at the bottom of the Delaware River at the Sunoco Logistics pier in South Philadelphia. It's a relic from the mid-1770s, and......

A week ago tonight, OFFICE, quite simply, rocked my face off. It had been a long day – the fourth in a row. I left the office at 6:50, giving me just enough time to go home and change clothes before meeting my plus-one for the evening. I just wanted some feel-good music. Fortunately, as I mentioned in the preview for this show, OFFICE is feel-good music. I just didn't know how good. You......

Due to the fact that owners and players were not able to resolve a long-standing labor dispute, the 2008 National Lacrosse League season was canceled yesterday. A spokeswoman for the Philadelphia Wings said its 5,000 season-ticket holders would receive full refunds and could expect a communication today. A Scranton woman has been cited for disorderly conduct for shouting profanities at her overflowing toilet. Apparently she was yelling near an open window, and her neighbor (an......

Dear Satan: I think I may believe in you now. You see, I know what hell is now, and it is the United States Post Office branch at Broad and Sansom. I spent an hour and a half there on Tuesday. An hour and a half. The line wasn't obscenely long – but there was only one clerk at the window. And even that wouldn't have been much of a problem, except that apparently,......

When we get press releases about bands we've never heard of, we'll occasionally contact our friends in their cities of origin to see if the bands are worth catching when they come through Philly. Chicago-based band OFFICE is one such band. We talked to a friend of ours who used to write for Chicagoist, and he told us that we had to, had to, had to, catch OFFICE, because they were bound to go places,......

We at the Gothamist network would like to express our heartfelt wishes to the people of Minnesota in the days after their tragic bridge collapse. We're not trying to discount the severity of the accident by making note of it in opposition to our usual -Ist lightheartedness – we just wanted to take a moment and recognize those affected last week. After the Minneapolis bridge collapse, Bostonist did a little research and found that Massachusetts......

A steaming hot pile of our favorite things from around the internets. Stop! Do not, whatever you do, put that Elmo in your mouth. Trust us. Sometimes, good things can happen in the blogosphere: I-Reporters in Minnesota provided some of the first news about this week's tragic bridge collapse. The photos they snapped provide a very clear image of what happened in the first moments after the accident. Heh. Yahoo is lucky they didn't misspell......

Like most nerd girls, this Phillyist admits to harboring a honking crush on one John Krasinski, normally seen mugging his way through scenes on NBC's The Office and now...er, mugging his way through scenes in Warner Brothers' License to Wed opposite Mandy Moore and Robin Williams. That said, this Phillyist also harbors a certain trepidation towards: 1) Romantic comedies about weddings and misunderstandings. 2) Mandy Moore. (We're really sorry, Mandy. We're sure you're terribly sweet......

A suspect wanted in the shooting of a New York commune leader more than a year ago was captured as she stepped off the Market-Frankford El in West Philly yesterday. The Inquirer's got the coverage of last night's presentation of the 86th annual Philadelphia Award to Leonore Annenberg. The lawyer for one of the group that we're apparently now calling the Fort Dix Six asked that the court reconsider its decision to hold him without......

The New Philadelphia City Hall Tour Office and Visitor Center officially opened on Wednesday with a little ceremony and everything. But as it turns out, the tour of City Hall is so much cooler now, that it's also no longer free; adults pay $10 for the full two-hour tour of the building, and $5 to go up in the Observation Tower. (Via HughE) In vaguely similar news, the Silk City diner reopened last night.......

After much ado about identical names and denied visas and Office of Homeland Security red tape, Rodrigo y Gabriela will finally grace the stage at the Electric Factory tonight. We've been waiting for this one for a long time. Be prepared for a flurry of fast-paced fingerwork, fascinating original songs, and classic covers such as Led Zep's "Stairway to Heaven." Rodrigo y Gabriela are so unique that someone had to coin the phrase "acoustic......

Let’s make one thing clear: you do not go to see the latest Will Ferrell comedy because you are expecting a revolution in moviemaking, an epic work of American cinema, or a quirky art house film. You go see the latest Will Ferrell comedy because you want to laugh. You want to spend ninety minutes forgetting your film snob pretensions and laughing at men getting kicked in the crotch. And if you understand that, friends,......

It seems like, all across the network, folks were up to no good. Maybe it was all the green beer from last weekend... Gothamist spent the week writing about New Yorkers behaving badly: at the post office, at the Garden, and at the fertility clinic. Calvin Klein may not be misbehaving, but he's just a little dirty, and in a completely different way than some NYC kitchens. SFist had its share of misbehave-rs, too, like......
