  • Amid confusion and a shortage of volunteers, United Neighbors of Whitman Park, a Camden community center that offered summer and after-school programs among other services, has closed. Some volunteers grew too old to help out, some passed away, and others moved. The space was purchased from the city of Camden for $1 ten years ago, but now has $1,400 in liens on it.
  • As we reported yesterday, the NRA has allegedly been employing spies to gather information on the operations of several gun control advocacy organizations. A Congressman from New Jersey, Frank Lautenberg, has demanded, in no uncertain terms, that the NRA come clean on its purported spy program and cease its use of "underhanded tactics." The gun-rights lobby has been silent on the allegations so far and Lautenberg's move places a great deal of pressure on them to step up to the plate and make a statement on the issue. The Senator's letter, addressed to NRA President John C. Sigler, states that he hopes everyone "can agree that the gun violence prevention debate should be based upon an open and honest exchange of ideas." Apparently, Senator Lautenberg, Mr. Sigler does not agree.

Once again, you just can't make this stuff up. According to Time.com, Mary Lou McFate (aka Mary McFate, aka Mary Lou Sapone), who has had previous incarnations as a flight attendant and a sex counselor (odd resume, Ms. McFate...) may have been working for the National Rifle Association even as she served on the board at organizations like CeasefirePA and States United to Prevent Gun Violence. Mother Jones Magazine broke the story.

Some of you have work tomorrow. Others do not. To the former, our condolences. To the latter, our congratulations.
