There aren't many performers who are surer bets to be worth the money you put down to see them than Eric Hutchinson (MySpace). Hutchinson is engaging, comedic, affable and, oh yeah, talented. Really freakin' talented. And at $12 (or $15 if you waited til the day of the show), his concert at the North Star this past Sunday was an absolute bargain.

They may not actually save your soul, but the Soulsavers (MySpace) - an English production and remix team comprised of members Rich Machin and Ian Glover - do have a spiritual (though not so spiritual agnostics, like this Phillyist, can't enjoy it) new album out now (It's Not How Far You Fall, It's The Way You Land, their second) which will at least entertain you, and they're coming to the mighty North Star tonight to...

In the last few weeks, the Eagles have looked absolutely anemic against the Giants, snatched defeat from the jaws of victory against da' Bears, and unimpressively beaten a couple hopeless teams in the Jets and the Vikings by a mere touchdown apiece. So forgive me for not being that optimistic about Sunday night's game against the Cowboys. Sure, our defense has been fairly solid... if we forget that last 1:57 of the Bears game, where we managed to make Brian Griese look like Jon Elway. But the Cowboys are the best offense not wearing New England Patriots uniforms that we'll see this year. I've resigned myself to getting beaten, probably badly, by our arch-rivals. So much so, in fact, that I won't be watching Sunday night's game. Instead, I'll be spending Sunday night with another rival: Paper Rival.

There are few things in life I truly appreciate. Among those are dudes who are secure enough to admit that Justin Timberlake is totally deck and multi-instrumentalists. Last night, at North Star Bar, I was entertained by the latter.

If you were one of the dozens of people scrambling for a ticket to the extremely sold out The Hold Steady show at North Star Bar last year who got shut out, listen up: the Brooklyn-based rockers are playing the Fillmore at the TLA tonight, and tickets are available.

Architecture in Helsinki (AIH) are shilling for Sprint. And we're totally okay with that. Now that we are TiVo-less, we have to watch commercials like everyone else. So it may not have been news to you, but we almost spit out our Blueberi and coke last night when we heard "Souvenirs" playing in the background of a Sprint spot. They've come far from when we last so them a year ago, and already they're taking money from the man.

We first heard of Architecture in Helsinki a few years ago when they were touring with Clap Your Hands Say Yeah. As in, wtf is an Architecture in Helsinki. Then we got to Troc early enough that night to find out exactly what it was: a six piece collective from Australia with a frenetic energy that made them completely irresistible. They never stopped moving. Each time they finished a song, everyone switched instruments and they started all over again. It was crazy. Their songs were so catchy we hopped up as soon as their set was over and bought both of their albums.
