Because we're big fans of student artwork, we told you about NEXUSselects when it first opened and we're now reminding you that it's about to close this coming Saturday.
We can't help but be aware that Philadelphia is a city that really pays attention to its always growing crop of art students, and there always seems to be terrific exhibitions where the focus is on student work, such as the one that we mentioned last week currently taking place in Northern Liberties' Projects Gallery.

Get it at 8 Artists 8 Viewpoints, presented by NEXUS/Foundation for Today's Art. The show is part of the Philadelphia International Fiber Symposium and features the work of eight recent graduates from Philadelphia University, University of the Arts, Moore College of Art and Tyler School of Art. The artists include Leslie Atik, Lauren Gross, Regina Dyhouse, Sarah Koziol, Rebecca Landes, Jae Lee, Sarah Perot and Sylvie Shaffer.
NEXUS/foundation for today's art is a champion of local artists of all stripes; their commitment to maintain gallery space dedicated to local emerging and experimental artists has rightfully earned them a rep as a Philly art institution. The fruits of their mission will be on display tonight, as they present their new members exhibitions with an opening reception.
Phillyist loves competition. Phillyist loves food. So a food competition is sure to get our meringue in a muddle and set our ovens to 450. If you’re feeling it too, head over the Nexus exhibit Yummy and join Minnesota artist Megan McCready for Hotdish Philly. Bring a hotdish to share, and compete for the title Best Classic Hotdish or Best Neo-Classic Hotdish. The only rules are it must contain a starch, protein, vegetable, saucy binder, “and something crunchy on top!” They’ll provide the dishes, drinks, and a microwave so’s everyone can get down to digging in. If you’re not up for the savory, they will not say no to a pan of bars—really, who would? While you’re noshing you’ll be treated to a little bit of Hotdish history and paraphernalia. We’re really hoping someone brings a pan of these... we do have some tater tots in the freezer…
