As we reported yesterday, the NRA has allegedly been employing spies to gather information on the operations of several gun control advocacy organizations. A Congressman from New Jersey, Frank Lautenberg, has demanded, in no uncertain terms, that the NRA come clean on its purported spy program and cease its use of "underhanded tactics." The gun-rights lobby has been silent on the allegations so far and Lautenberg's move places a great deal of pressure on them to step up to the plate and make a statement on the issue. The Senator's letter, addressed to NRA President John C. Sigler, states that he hopes everyone "can agree that the gun violence prevention debate should be based upon an open and honest exchange of ideas." Apparently, Senator Lautenberg, Mr. Sigler does not agree.

Mother Jones Magazine broke the story.
