Although slightly further afield from Philly, one of the most sinister of monster legends which has fascinated us for years concerns Lancaster County, a place which, over the years, has been known for its reports of ferocious werewolves and also Bigfoot. In the past at Phillyist we've discussed these eerie legends with brief mention of one of the strangest spectres known to haunt the county: The Albatwitches. more ›

My last interview was last Friday. It was short and sweet and I thought it went well. And you know what, I bet the interviewer thought it went well, too. So I called her up today to touch base and get some idea of whether or not I should still be searching in Hardcore mode or take it down a notch or two, maybe to Average mode. more ›
Countering all the claims that electronic music took a sharp dive in the mid to late 90's has been the continued quality of composition from producers like BT (Brian Transeau), a Berklee College of Music dropout who began his electro-dance music career working with his DJ friends Deep Dish in Washington DC on the way to earning international fame as a trance music pioneer. more ›

Somebody Set Us Up the Bomb: The Lunabomber is trying to resurrect the "All Your Base" meme in honor of its fifth year. Phillyist is happy to help, because we'd rather see "All Your Base" make a triumphant return than the dreaded Dancing Hamsters. more ›
Unless you've been hiding under the Internet equivalent of a rock (which, I imagine, translates to being on dial-up with a 2400 baud modem), you've no doubt heard of the Flying Spaghetti Monster - an alternate view of world creation that made itself known during the Kansas State Board of Education's Intelligent Design debates. more ›

Phillyist remembers fondly from our childhood a random video store rental movie about a crazily-costumed Japanese super hero fighting horrible monsters with his amazing super powers. It was the greatest thing ever. Unfortunately, so many movies and TV shows like this came out of Japan, it's hard to know which one it was we fell in love with, but we're pretty sure it was the crazy Shaw Brothers martial arts fun-fest Infra-Man. That's why we're very excited that Infra-Man is coming to the International House this Saturday, as part of one of Exhumed Films' fantastic double features. more ›
Phillyist has been watching Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum very closely. Santorum, up for reelection next year, has made quite a name for himself as a super religious conservative and has been sinking in the polls for quite some time. In an effort to shimmy to the middle and appeal to a wider range of voters, Santorum completely reversed his previous pro-death penalty stance this past Summer and has now flip-flopped his position on Intelligent Design. more ›

The Please Touch Museum, insistent that "Halloween is too much fun to celebrate in just one day," is offering family-friendly Halloween events throughout the month of October. Activities include the messy "Make Your Oobleck, the civic-minded," "Hero Dress Up," a presentation of "There's a Monster Under My Bed", a seasonal snack of spice tea and jack-o-lanterns and more. more ›
The sky was bright and clear when we parked our posteriors on the steps on the Great Plaza at Penn's Landing for day 2 of their 20th Anniversary celebration. We were stationed right in front of the speakers, and realizing we'd never be able to manage conversation over "Master of the Twang Bar," Adrian Belew's performance, Phillyist turned to our friend and shouted, "It's really loud." more ›
