Remember last month, when some math whiz at Carnegie Mellon decided that Phillyist was the 47th-most important blog... in the universe? Well, the staff of Phillyist got to thinking that we had you to thank for that, so we wanted to buy you all a drink. And then, we got to thinking that 47 is only five away from the meaning of life, and we decided that not only did we want to buy...
Phillyist still isn't used to it being pitch black when the work day is over, but the folks at the Center City District are giving us a night light, for this evening at least. Five buildings along the Avenue of the Arts (from City Hall down to Pine) will be lit up like a movie starlet's makeup mirror. These "murals of art" aren't all though: there will be entertainment on the Avenue as well as restaurant booths selling their wares at reduced cost (which is really the only way we'll be eating at Bliss on a random weeknight). The kick-off ceremony takes place at 5:30 in front of the Bellevue, but the food and entertainment run from 5-8.
The nicer the weather gets, the busier we get across the Ist-A-Verse. But we like being busy. Here's a peek at what we've been up to since last week!
Work has been going on at the site, located along 17th Street between JFK and Arch, for almost two years now. The concrete core is about the same height as the William Penn statue at the top of City Hall, making the building's impact on the skyline impossible to miss.
