For you jazz heads out there, don't forget about the free shows this week, just 40 minutes away in Wilmington, Del. The 19th Annual Clifford Brown Jazz Festival kicked off last night with an homage to Duke Ellington. We're looking forward to tonight's line-up, featuring the Mahavishnu Project, Skerik's Maelstrom Trio, and The Blue Method.
This Phillyist lives a block and a half from the downtown Rita's (you know, the one that actually has indoor seating), and even though we don't go there very often, it saddened us to see them close up shop for the winter, complete with window sign reading "We'll miss you!" We would walk by every day, thinking of just how sad and lonely it looked in there. But yesterday, we were happy to see that the sign had been taken down, and a new one was in its place, telling all passers-by that Rita's would re-open Thursday (as in, tomorrow). We assume that the rest of the Rita's locations in the area will be opening tomorrow as well.
"The Eagles are still playing like shit! Please pass me a beer! Buy your Eagles tshirt right here! I repeat, the Eagles are still playing like shit!"That's courtesy of some guy selling Eagles tshirts on the corner of 18th & Market Streets. It almost inspired us to buy a shirt, just for the sheer ingenuity of it all.
Well, there's one reason to be happy the cold weather has finally come down upon us - The Blue Cross RiverRink re-opens Thanksgiving weekend...and ice skating in 60 degree weather is just unnatural. The RiverRink opens at noon of the 25th - admission is $6 and skate rental is an additional $3. However - if you bring a new, unwrapped toy to donate to the B101/NBC 10 "Stockings for Kids" drive - you'll get one dollar off admission, giving you a chance to skate in the cold while still feeling warm and fuzzy inside. The RiverRink is located on Columbus Blvd. and Market Streets, Penns Landing.
