Man, why do we always miss the good musicians (like this guy) when we have to catch a train?

  • "The traditional battle of the budget opens today with the first in a series of City Council hearings on Mayor Nutter's five-year plan."
  • I've been debating what to do with the photos I've been taking on the Philly streets. It doesn't seem right to just slip them into our Photoist column every once in a while, as we get plenty of beautiful submissions to that from our readers. I thought about starting a separate staff column, but that didn't seem right, either. Then I realized, we're a blog: we don't need a set schedule or a separate column to put up photos. We can just put them up, whenever! So here you go. This is a photo I took of a light hanging from the tunnel that runs between Market East Station and the Reading Terminal Market, on Filbert between 11th and 12th. Hope you like it.

Nothing can melt Phillyist's cold, sarcastic, postmodern blogger facade faster than a holiday model train set. There's just something about that perfect little dream world with the tiny, wonderful machines running through it that makes us all warm and nostalgic, and brings back the goofy, grinning kid in us. That's why we were excited as a little tyke on Christmas morn to find the Reading Terminal Holiday Railroad Display back again this year. If you saw last year's display (pictured above), you still need to come by and see this one, because it's completely different. This time there are two waterfalls, a tunnel, an elevated trolley, and ever so much other fun stuff!

If NYC has an unsubstantiated terror threat against their subways, so must we all share in the paranoia, er, wealth. Due to police activity Market East regional train station is shut down, effectively also cutting off service at 30th Street Station and Suburban Station.
