Phillyist really dug The Show Must Go On at the 2008 Philadelphia Live Arts Festival, and we're happy to see that friend-of-Phillyist J.J. Tiziou has shared his photos of the cast with the world, via YouTube.

Performances: Etiquette by Rotozaza (Rotozaza) (future performances sold out); Car (Kate Watson-Wallace / Anonymous Bodies) (future performances); Sweet By-and-By (Pig Iron Theatre Company + Teater Sláva) (future performances); Everyone (Miguel Gutierrez and the Powerful People) (no future performances); 7 Veils (Malleable Dance Theater) (future performances)

This is the green issue, so it's appropriate to read it online.

As if we weren’t already anticipating the hell out of Live Arts/Fringe, this piece on Kate Watson-Wallace and her work Car has got us buckling up.

There was very little else for Londonist to be concerned with when the threat of a Tube strike became a very unpleasant reality. The inconvenience was extreme: there aren't many alternatives to the Tube in London despite the best efforts of the Londonist team to get everyone from A to B. Brighter news came in the form of the first ever female Yeoman Warder, or Beefeater as the position is more commonly known, and several smiles as well as lots of cash were raised by some plucky urban ironing. London is apparently full of lies and whales: one of these things is true. We leave that up to you to figure out.

Sure, you can wander through art gallery after art gallery tonight. The same places you always go, with the same cheap wine you always drink. Or, you can take advantage of the fact that there's always a First Friday during the Live Arts and Fringe Festivals, and there are plenty of free or pay-what-you-can PLAF events you can hit tonight and for the next week. A few that we think sound interesting:

Happy first weekend of September - and happy Labor Day weekend, too, for our American cities! Let's take a look at what's been happening around the Ist-a-verse.

If you ask this Phillyist, it's the most wonderful time of the year.

Once again, nothing new this week, as theatre companies and performers around the city prepare for the Live Arts and Fringe Festivals. Check back here next week for our preview. Meanwhile, to make up for the short listings, here's a longer quote, from 1930s and '40s star of stage and screen Nelson Eddy (the handsome devil you see here):

As with last year, Phillyist will be giving separate coverage to Philadelphia Live Arts and Philly Fringe shows, so our listings through the end of the month may look a little sparse. No fear – there’s still plenty of live entertainment around the city. Now, on with the listings!

Things are slowing down right now, in the weeks before the Philadelphia Live Arts and Philly Fringe Festivals. But that doesn't mean that all of the theatres in Philadelphia are dark. Now, on with the listings!

Week two of DanceBOOM! at the Wilma kicked off on Broad Street in a big way with the N.E. Frankford Boys and Girls Club, American Legion Post 224 Drill Team and Nicetown Stars Dance Team. The Nicetown girls were adorable, and the drill team was really impressive in their precision. (It was lots of fun to watch terrified people try to figure out how to walk past without getting trampled, too.) None of the performers in either group of the pre-show were over eighteen, so it would be unfair of me to give any real criticism to the groups, but I'm certainly glad that I arrived at the Wilma early enough to see them.

We'd like to congratulate all of the artists and organizers of the 2006 PLAF. We can't wait for 2007!

(Jo Strømgren Kompani) (No future performances).

(Kate Watson-Wallace) (Future performances sold out).

If you're attending any of the events at this year's Philadelphia Live Arts Festival/Philly Fringe, and there's a show you especially liked (or especially hated), just shoot us an email with your thoughts and information as to how you'd like us to credit you in the post. We'll be consolidating readers' PLAF diaries (if you need help, see some examples) and posting them as they roll in. Don't be shy, now: we want to hear from you!

If you're new to Philly or perhaps just new to the Philly performing arts scene, you might be a little puzzled by all the hoopla. Just what exactly is everyone so excited about? What is this Fringe thing? Well, happily, you're asking the right blog!
