It's Book Quarterly time! They got fiction, non, and some excerpts. Politics get under their skin, and may keep someone from coming home again. Meanwhile, the PA delegates to the RNC had quite a trek from bed to boardroom. As if Chester didn't have enough issues, now they got the Bloods and Crips running around. Frankly, Philly has enough to worry about without nursing homes, so we tend to agree: get out of the business.......

This is the green issue, so it's appropriate to read it online. Then grab a bite to eat. If you've got the cash and time, try "Philly's greenest restaurateur." We Shop Eco. Make sure Fido is on board with the eco-friendliness. We really can't take it that far though. And biking in the city still scares us. Lessons learned from the Olympics. Keep on getting ready for Fringe; good luck getting into Wandering Alice though.......

Her day was not going well. When we first spoke, we both agreed that “aging is a bitch." Aging might be a bitch, but Susana Mayer is certainly not. For forty-five minutes we conversed about all things erotic, but the conversation’s tone was not at all erotic. Through laughs, coughs, and stories of her past I got to know Ms. Mayer. So, who is Susana Mayer? In short, she’s the mastermind behind the Erotic Literary......

Sure, one of the great pleasures in the world is curling up alone with a good book, but sometimes voracious readers need to leave the house and hear the authors of their favorite books bring their stories to life in person. At the Philadelphia Book Festival this weekend, held in the blocks surrounding the Free Library Main Branch, you have this chance with over 60 authors reading on six different stages this Saturday and Sunday.......

Today is the day. And the image says it all. We know how great Philadelphians are, how proud and patriotic we can be. And we also know how much every true Philadelphian loves to complain. Sports, weather (guilty as charged) and politics, among other things. Well, the fact is that if you don't vote, your complaints are merely worthless and meaningless strings of words, thrown together by someone with no legitimate right to complain.......

Monday challenges the average human to perform incredible feats of bravery and strength every week. It is the Goliath to our David, the Microsoft to our Yahoo!, the [insert viable presidential candidate here] to our Ron Paul. We do not choose it – it chooses us. Then it abuses us. Degrades us. Makes us to feel as if our feelings, if they exist at all, don't actually matter. Yes, we will say it, because......

- It's an -ist Olympic throwdown! The US Olympic Committee is considering Philly as a possible 2016 venue, as well as Houston, Chicago, LA and San Francisco. Which doesn't mean we and our sister -ists can't stay friends. After all, there's no guarantee the US will bid to host a game that year anyway. Just in case, be extra good on Tuesday - that's when the USOC will be here. (via) - Citywide wireless internet......

With our sports teams generating so much negative buzz these days, Phillyist would like to remind you that our hometown is more than just a breeding ground for poor sportsmanship. This town breeds other things too...like award-winning authors. Winner of the 2005 Drue Heinz Literature Prize, former Philadelphia Poetry Provider, and fellow Central High alum (go Lancers!) David Harris Ebenbach will be stopping in at the Mt. Airy Learning Tree (7301 Germantown Ave) tonight......
