This week's quote is brought to you by Tennessee Williams, whose play, Vieux Carre, is being produced by Ego Po Productions starting next week. It runs in full: The color, the grace and levitation, the structural pattern in motion, the quick interplay of live beings, suspended like fitful lightning in a cloud, these things are the play, not words on paper, nor thoughts and ideas of an author, those shabby things snatched off basement...

  • A dude in Elk County, PA thinks he shot some photos of Bigfoot in the Allegheny National Forest, and the Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization agrees; they say it's probably a juvenile sasquatch. But they're asking that the guy not reveal the exact location where he took the pictures, for fear that people will destroy the animal's habitat. Park rangers, btw, say it's probably just a skinny, mangy bear. (Via Jen)

The sun may be shining now, but it was pouring this morning, and that was quite the thunderstorm we had last night. This Phillyist is a big fan of summer storms, so long as she's not at any risk of being struck by lightning, which makes the view from her desk (snapped quickly during this morning's deluge, left) kind of awesome for rain-watching. When she's in her apartment, she throws the windows open with reckless abandon, nevermind that the wind is blowing the rain into the bedroom. And when she can find one, she believes that nothing beats sitting on a covered porch or patio while it's raining.

A short break later, Torn and co. took the stage. In all they played two pieces and an encore. When Torn described his sound as "schizophrenic," it wasn't an understatement. Armed with his guitar, a host of pedals, and some synthesizers, Torn directed the band in a meandering set. His ambient sounds, which came in blips, squeals, and waves, were the constant underneath Tom Rainey's thundering drums, Craig Taborn's idiosyncratic keyboard playing, Tim Berne's huge range of notes, and Michael Formanek's grounding bass.

  • Villanova heiress Susan Tabas Tepper was sentenced to a year of probation, $2,800 in fines, mandatory anger management classes, and community service on Monday for assaulting Xiomara Salinas, her nanny and housekeeper, in the summer of 2005. Apparently Tepper got angry about a messy refrigerator and, in the grand tradition of both crazy rich bitches and kung fu masters, she used whatever was nearby as a weapon, throwing carrots at Salinas, and then striking her with a telephone handset, before pulling her hair, breaking her glasses, and even trying to push her down the stairs.

  • Remember to be careful during thunderstorms; a man in Delaware County was riding his lawn tractor during the storm on Friday and got struck by lightning. He apparently died instantly.
