Despite their name, NYC four-piece Vampire Weekend (MySpace) is not a shoe-gazing, emo goth band. In fact, their self-titled debut LP, just released at the end of last month, is perhaps best described as "sunny" - the very antithesis of a vampire's idea of a good weekend. This band, beloved of many blogs (including us), performs bouncy, funny, clever, retro indie/punk/pop/New Wave songs about love. Their music is so fun it feels like there has......

This Phillyist first became aware of Mike Birbiglia when my younger sister was in high school. She signed up to be on his street team. She kept putting his posters up on my door. She'd corner me until I listened to clips from his albums. People, she found audio streams of his appearances at venues across the country and wouldn't let me out of the house until I admitted that, yeah, the dude was kind......

Holy smokes! Giant fish on the MTA, Paris Hilton in jail, then out, then in again, Al Gore, goatses, blumpkins, Matt Damon, and baby art critics! It's been a busy week across the Ist-A-Verse, and here's a smattering of what's been going on. In Gothamist's neck of the woods, they found out that many things are possible: A man caught a 40+ pound fish off the Rockaways and took it home on the subway. Graffiti......

After our interview with Aqualung, we were sure that the live concert couldn't be better than his new CD Memory Man, which is being released today. It was, but in a different way than expected. The ingenuity and creative aspect of his CD is truly incredible. You can tell that he as a gift with music and sounds. Aqualung has definitely reinvented rock music for a new generation. He uses a variety of instruments......

With the upcoming release of Memory Man on March 13th, Aqualung is touring the Eastern U.S., stopping at the World Cafe Live on March 10th at 7:30pm. You might think that Aqualung is a band of some sort but it's really just one Englishman - Matt Hales - making beautiful music. Hales calls his music, "truthful, articulate, candid, poetic, sometimes beautiful and occasionally a bit strange." Just what we like. He writes, performs, sings......

If you're hiking, consider charging up your iPod, as Seattlest finds out that a man lost during a hike was found by the glow of his iPod. That cleverness seems to be devoid in cops who were using police cruiser instant messaging clients - although we imagine IMs "so are you nakie" to be included in cop shows, just for realism. If only the cops were busting the Hummer-driving jerk who made a poor......
