For the first time in almost ten years, fewer people in the Philadelphia area are predicted to travel 50 miles or more this Fourth of July weekend than did the previous year. The change is believed to be due to high gas prices, increases in the price of food, and other expenses. And it's probably just as well, because cops are hiding out there on the roads in PennDOT trucks, ready to tip off other......

All across the Ist-A-Verse (or at least the American parts thereof), writers and editors are in the midst of enjoying their three-day weekend. But after the week we've all had, we feel like the break is not only needed, but deserved. Just look at everything we've been doing! Gothamist headed into the Memorial Day weekend with a number of tasks accomplished. They worried about Long Islanders giving New Yorkers a bad name. They tried......

The police have caught one of the city's most dangerous killers - although they didn't know he was one of the city's most dangerous killers when they arrested him. They were booking him for stealing a cell phone when they realized who they had. Two police raids this past Friday and Saturday turned up a bunch of drugs (including especially large amounts of cocaine), guns, and wads of cash. The Board of Ethics is......

An amber alert abduction case was quickly and happily resolved yesterday, thanks to swift police action and a......

The NJ Supreme Court has decided that homosexuals should have the same rights as heterosexuals (what a novel idea!) and has given state lawmakers 180 days to rewrite the law to include either gay marriage, or some sort of civil union. In other words, there may soon be a closer option for local gay couples who want to solidify their unions. Awesome. Equality is a good thing. (Via Libby) Sunday night a New Jersey......

The swaying of the concrete and steel ramp at the Linc that we told you about yesterday is nothing to worry about, according to Philly officials, engineers, and inspectors. The structure has been declared safe, and fans' claims that it was swaying four to five feet have been pooh-poohed as exaggeration and misperception. Which would be comforting, we suppose...if it weren't for the fact that the Pier 34 collapse is back in the news... If......

Federal funding to the city has decreased dramatically, which means the taxpayers pick up the burden. It also means layoffs and service reductions, and other really bad things. Well, that's cheery! Thanks, W! Weird crime time: police responded to a 911 domestic dispute call in Rhawnhurst on Sunday; supposedly a man was assaulting a woman. Nothing too unusual about that. Except the weapon he was using was an iron, and when cops arrived he allegedly......
