In a video presented by the Smithsonian Institute’s Latino Center after the premiere showing of the new film Bella at the United Artists King of Prussia Stadium 16—note to readership: unless you enjoy watching rich people kiss each other’s asses and overblow their purpose in life, you better get an aisle seat if you go to a film premiere—I discovered that both former Florida Governor Jeb Bush and the lead singer of the band Switchfoot were big fans of the film. While I hate to voluntarily put myself in the company of a member of Georgie Boy’s gene pool or a guy whose musical catalog is significantly lesser than Nickelback's, I have to admit that this Phillyist actually thought the movie was… aaah-ite.

  • US Department of Justice lawyers had requested that federal observers be stationed in polling places in Philly's Latino neighborhoods on Tuesday, but a three-judge panel has rejected the idea. The City Solicitor had argued that their presence might be intimidating and decrease participation; he also says plenty of translation services will be available. Hmm... Well, we'll see.
  • What's interesting on TV this week.

    While the Phillies were busy losing game two of a day-night doubleheader to the Washington Nationals, Michael Marcavage, the face of Repent America, was busy pissing off fans in the 300 level of Citizens Bank Park. Marcavage was on-hand to protest Gay Day, the third annual night for gays to celebrate in groups at a Phillies game. The game has always been a center of controversy, including when the homophobic Todd Jones made his debut as a Phillie the day after making homophobic remarks in the Phils' locker room.
