Most of the national hype about this weekend’s Conference Championship Games has been about the Steelers and the Ravens, and understandably so. There’s nothing like two division rivals meeting in the playoffs with a championship bid on the line. Think Yankees-Red Sox ALCS games or Flyers-Penguins Eastern Conference Finals. It’s simply the highest of high drama punctuated by vitriol and hatred built up over an entire regular season or, in some cases, whole generations.

No matter what your political leanings, you have to appreciate the momentousness of Barack Obama being elected President, the first (half-) African-American to be selected as the Commander in Chief. (As an aside, we have to give major kudos to the President-elect for strongly considering adopting a shelter mutt as the dog to join the Obama family in the White House. Obviously, we hope he does go the shelter route.) So much for the Bradley effect, which so many on the left had feared and so many on the right had counted on.

We'd planned on updating you throughout the night about this, seeing as McCain's people said this morning that the whole election could come down to the great state of Pennsylvania, but half an hour ago, with 0% of polls reporting, MSNBC called the state for Obama. We'll keep you posted should anything change, but we'd like to believe the networks learned their lessons in 2000 and that nobody will be calling things without being certain of the outcome.

Things got hot in LA this weekend and it looks like we may have a real series on our hands. A few head-seeking fastballs, a little bench-clearing, and a whole lot of jawing just turned this NLCS into a tense and competitive slugfest. Game 4 is tonight. Joe Blanton is winless in Chavez Ravine this season. Derek Lowe is pitching on 3-days rest. Gear up, Philly, this could get good as the Phils try to take control in a 3-1 series, or allow the Dodgers to knot it up at 2-2.
