- Employees of the city's Northwest Transfer Station, which compacts trash to be shipped to landfills, have alleged that they were discriminated against based upon their race. Lawrence "Lonnie" Powell explains that he had to ask permission to go to the bathroom and was not permitted to use a bathroom just feet away that white employees were able to use without permission.
- A city audit of the Philadelphia Parking Authority is going to show that the agency is top-heavy with managers, spends its money in an unorganized way, and is not cooperating with the city regarding an explanantion as to who receives free parking passes to park at the airport. If you haven't read by now, we just received word that former Eagles' Defensive Coordinator Jim Johnson passed away this afternoon from cancer, just days after the team had named Sean McDermott as his successor while he fought his illness. Johnson was 68, and is survived by his wife, two children, and four grandchildren.
At this point, all bets are off. Regardless of the roller-coaster season they've had, the Eagles are fun to root for again.
Here’s the thing: I’m not really big on moral victories. I’d like to sit here and give props to A.J. Feeley for almost leading a 24-point underdog to a victory over arguably the greatest team in the history of football. I’d love to throw hosannas toward Andy Reid for his ballsy play-calling and ability to keep the team focused in the face of a city full of non-believers (myself DEFINITELY included). Game Time: Saturday, January 13th at 8pm
The Eagles have come a long way. After being left for dead in late November - they lost McNabb in a 31-13 loss to the Titans, which was followed by a 45-21 loss to the Colts - they reeled off five straight wins with a quarterback that all the NFL considered a washout after showing some ability in San Francisco. The super undead Eagles - coach Reid himself, as well as several players, was using the zombie comparison in the last two weeks - go charging into the playoffs as the hottest team in the NFL, akin to a fully restored and fully revved hot-rod that's been unleashed on the streets after years lying under a tarp.
We've read all of the negative columns and blog posts. We've bashed just about every Eagle to our friends. We've listened to WIP so much that we think we'd be better off just flogging ourselves.
It was inside-out last night in Philadelphia as the Phillies stepped up big in an important game while the Eagles shrivelled up and fumbled their way to a 14-10 loss to the Atlanta Falcons last night. The Eagles were slow out of the gate, allowing the Falcons to ring up 14 quick points. This might have been due to the Eagles first blunder of the evening, which happened before kickoff. Jeremiah Trotter got into a shoving match with Falcons cornerback Kevin Mathis during team warmups. The two players were ejected from the game for throwing punches, even though Trotter didn't actually throw a punch. Still, he retaliated to Mathis' taunts and was thrown from the game, taking away a key component of the Eagles' defense.
