Curbed reported yesterday that the recently-opened Nu Hotel in Brooklyn sported a pretty big error on their website: a shot of the Philadelphia skyline instead of their own. The error has since been remedied, but for a few hours, we could pretend that Philadelphia was in view of Brooklyn's shores.

Today is the last day of gophila.com's Holidays promotion. Until midnight tonight you can book a hotel room through their site, and if it’s over $150 (which, who are we kidding, it will be) you’ll get $50 off. You just have to enter the code “HOLIDAYS” when you’re checking out.

Dear Philadelphia:

Once upon a time, there was a little girl from Wynnewood named Alex Scott. At one, she was diagnosed with neuroblastoma. At four, even while she was being treated for the cancer herself, she started a lemonade stand to raise money for the pediatric cancer center where she was being treated. The little lady attracted a lot of attention across the country and beyond, but unfortunately, all the money in the world couldn't cure Alex's cancer, and she passed away in 2004, at the age of eight.

. Then they did everything in their power to stop me from throwing things at the screen.

  • For some, yesterday began with a 3 Alarm fire in a 3-story building on West Lehigh. The fire started in the basement apartment of the building, and one of the two tenants of said apartment is currently unaccounted for.
  • Shooting in South Philly. Phillyist has been noticing variations of this sentence: "No arrests have been made and a motive for the shooting is unknown." at the end of news briefs about shootings in the area with increasing frequency of late. We're no fans of violence in general - but we're particular petrified by the proliferation of violence without motive. It means we're all targets, all the time.
  • Philadelphia Hotels are unhappy with the Philadelphia Magazine's cover story about our fair city's problem with violent crime. Apparently, they're afraid it might frighten the tourists. We appreciate the hospitality industry's concern, but surely if a tourist is learning about our safety issues for the first time from a magazine cover in their hotel lobby, it's already much too late for them to cancel and request a refund. So the hotel's bookings should be safe enough from this magazine issue. Those of us who live here year round, however, should probably still worry.

ja_images.jpgThe Doubletree Hotel, which recently completed an extensive renovation, has just announced the launch of BYOB Thursdays at the Academy Café . The program enables guests to bring their own bottle (or two) of wine every Thursday night and, with the purchase of an entrée, enjoy their favorite vino with no corkage fee attached. We say cheers to that! Reservations are suggested, so please call (215) 893-1600.

The news has just broken that Philadelphia has been eliminated from contention to host the 2016 Summer Olympics. The three cities that did make the cut were Chicago, Los Angeles and San Francisco. Houston was the other city eliminated of the five that were under consideration by the United States Olympic Committee.

My but we had a great time last night. We only wish we could have shared it with our sister sites...

The shapeless dough of the internet, formed into tasty pellets and baked to perfection, just for you.

The Ritz offers a hot chocolate sommelier, the Four Seasons, spa services. But the Best Western Independence Park Hotel in Old City has something those other hotels haven't got (or at least aren't talking about): ghosts.

, Phillyist loves consumer opinion websites – whether it’s restaurants, retail stores, or hotels, we think it’s important for people to share their experiences. In an ideal world, companies would pay attention and improve service where it’s needed.

Don't come as you are, but as you want to be.
