Never wear a short-sleeve button-down shirt and a $300 tie at the same time. You just look like a wealthy classless fool!

Happy Portugal Day!

Yes, it's Cinco de Mayo. We've got one event related to the fiesta, but that doesn't mean you can't throw together your own party. Just get some tequila and the number you'll need to call out of work tomorrow morning.

Last Thursday's Happy Hour was fun. Lots and lots of fun. We loved meeting all of you who came. (If you didn't come, trust us: you were really missing out!) We also loved learning that some of you get just as hung up on manners as we do. Case in point: the discussion I had with several of you early in the evening about tipping during an open bar. General consensus: do it.

The day has arrived, and in a few hours, it will be time to [responsibly] imbibe alcoholic beverages with the staff of your favorite blog. A blog that just happens to be the 47th-most important blog in the universe. (That's why we're throwing this little shindig!) Meet us downstairs at St. Stephen's Green at 6PM tonight for: Open bar featuring well drinks, house wines, and selected drafts (until we close our tab). $3 Yards...

The 24 hours preceding the Honorary Title concert at the Electric Factory had gone just about as well as any 24-hour period in my life, and it was gonna be pretty difficult for anything to kill my happy buzz Friday evening. Well, the Electric Factory tried its damnedest.

Tonight, after happy hour and before whatever else you're doing, spend some time with Michael Palin. He's the guy in the video above who's not John Cleese, and he's one of the funniest actors from Monty Python's Flying Circus.

Wednesdays throughout July, Bleu Martini's Charity Happy Hours will be benefiting Once Upon A Nation. Go between 5:30 and 7:30 and enjoy free hors d'oeuvres and drink specials, and have 15% of your tab donated to this worthy endeavor.

The weather forecast has changed, and it's no longer supposed to rain today. Good thing, too, because that means that it should be nice and dry (okay, maybe nice and sticky, what with a daytime high in the upper 80s and humidity to spare) for tonight's First Friday goings-on. Here are a few of our picks if you're out and about tonight.

The Megaloping guys might be SEPTA’s biggest champions these days. They’re firm believers in the power of public transportation, and they’re on a mission—to make it from northern Virgina to Portland, Maine using only subways, city busses, and commuter railways their entire trip. They’re passing through Philly tonight.

Despite coming in like quite a lion, the month of March won't be all bad. Every Wednesday from March 7 to 28, The Bleu Martini in Old City will donate 15% of its happy hour proceeds to Greater Philadelphia Cares, that great volunteering organization we keep chatting about. There will be complimentary hors d'oeuvres and drink specials from 5:30-7:30. Phillyist asks: what easier way to give to charity than grabbing a martini and people-watching OC style?

We are terrible at managing money. It’s always feast or famine—either we're livin’ large the closer we are to pay day or slumming it pauper-style on the opposite end of the spectrum. Payday is Friday, so today it’s all pauper, all the time. Fret not, because it’s Wednesday, the day when you can have a night out in Old City for less than $20.

The good folks over at DailyCandy tipped us off this morning to an awesome new web site. Or, what has the potential to be an awesome (and very helpful!) website that hasn't exactly taken off in the City of Brotherly Love quite yet. It's called Unthirsty, and theoretically, you should be able to enter your city and find a slew of happy hours to meet your every need.

The day has finally arrived. And, like a good infant should, we're celebrating our first birthday with a bender for our toddling selves and all of our friends, over at Devil's Alley. The fun starts at six, and the alcohol runs free until we run out of cash, after which, you can still buy drinks at Happy Hour prices (from the Happy Hour menu, natch -- no Grey Goose for you!). And for the hungry amongst you, we'll have some tasty goodies (again till the cash runs out -- you don't think we're made of money, do you?). And even if you don't drink or eat (because... you're an android?) there will still be some awsome swag given away to six lucky winners. You'll have to be present to win, though, so don't just run off when we stop paying for your food and beverages. Besides, what fun will that be for all the Phillyist staff who want to meet their adoring fans?

Phillyist wonders, just exactly how much did you spend on the last mixed drink or shooter you bought? $5? $8? $12?
